Nicholas A. Keppel

Nicholas A. Keppel

Armstrong Teasdale, Senior Counsel

St. Louis, Missouri

Nick Keppel assists inventors and their assignees with the procurement of intellectual property rights, specifically in the patent area. His day-to-day work involves the preparation of patent applications and prosecution of those applications through negotiation with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Joining his interests in the theory of science and technology with that of law gives Nick an added perspective when working with clients. Within a variety of different fields, he gets to see the cutting edge of technology as he guides inventors through the patent application process. For each, he proficiently argues merits and advantages to define boundaries, include alternatives and watch for pitfalls. Working with small startups to large corporations, Nick handles a wide variety of patent subject matter. The majority of his work includes elastic polyelectrolyte polymer films that may be adapted for use with living tissue and organisms or for use as functional coatings, electrocatalyst alloys for fuel cells, very hard and high-refractive index polymers used as lens materials, precious metal extraction, metal plating and silicon substrate manufacturing in semiconductor fabrication, agrochemical formulations, combinatorial chemistry and pharmaceuticals such as small molecule preparation and organic synthesis.
