Cynthia Jacob is Senior Counsel in Fisher Phillips’ New Jersey office. Since 2006, Cynthia has been engaged primarily as a neutral arbitrator and mediator in all aspects of employment law, ranging from individual matters to collective and class actions, ERISA and FLSA cases and related matters. Her experience also includes several decades of litigating commercial and employment-related cases, initially as plaintiff’s counsel and thereafter, on behalf of management including wrongful termination, employee benefits disputes, race, sex and age discrimination, and other civil rights litigation as well as successfully handling a wide range of appellate cases. Parties before her in arbitrations have ranged from individuals to businesses in wide range of industries including Fortune 500 companies. Cynthia is certified by the American Arbitration Association. She is a Fellow of the College of the American Labor and Employment Lawyers as a neutral. Because of her extensive arbitration experience from the perspective of both arbitrator and lawyer, she is able to effectively counsel clients on strategies for pursuing positive outcomes in arbitration proceedings. Cynthia is a former President of the New Jersey State Bar Association and a former Chair of the Lawyers’ Advisory Committee for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Prior to her 35 years as a trial attorney in private practice, Cynthia began her legal career in public service in the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender. While there, Cynthia also taught appellate practice at Rutgers Camden Law School. She then became successively the first Director of the Central Appellate Research Section of the Administrative Office of the Courts, the Director of Civil Practice and Acting Standing Master of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Cynthia has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since the publication began (Appellate Practice Litigation - Labor and Employment) and Chambers USA (Labor and Employment Law). Since 2005, she has been listed as a New Jersey Super Lawyer in Employment and Labor Law and as one of New Jersey’s Top 100 Lawyers (2007 and previous years). Cynthia has taught numerous continuing legal education courses in the areas of arbitration, federal practice, employment litigation and rainmaking. In addition to receiving her law degree from Yale University, Cynthia has a Ph.D. in Art History and has taught the Laws of Cultural Heritage and Preservation at Rutgers University.
