Jared Smith is an associate in the Southern California office of Fish & Richardson P.C. His practice focuses on complex patent litigation in both U.S. district court and the U.S. International Trade Commission across a wide range of technologies, including medical devices, biotechnology, consumer electronics, and software. He has also contributed to several appellate and amicus curiae briefs in cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Ninth Circuit, and the Supreme Court.
Before joining Fish, Jared was a senior systems engineer on classified projects in the aerospace and defense industry. He helped develop command and control software for a system designed to defend U.S. Navy ships from anti-ship missiles. He also led the design and development of a multilevel security (unclassified and classified) IP-based communication system for an unmanned aircraft used for persistent maritime surveillance. The system enabled dispersed, ground-based crewmembers to communicate internally with each other and externally through the U/VHF radios onboard the aircraft.
