Mike Lieberman is a litigation partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. His practice focuses on Supreme Court and appellate litigation. Mike has achieved success for clients at every stage of Supreme Court review, including as lead drafter of merits briefs, certiorari-stage briefs, and amicus briefs. He also has helped clients prevail in multiple cases in federal courts of appeals and district courts across the country. His cases have spanned a wide range of subject matter, including antitrust, bankruptcy, class actions, constitutional law, criminal law, election law, immigration, international law, preemption, products liability, and sovereign immunity. Mike also maintains an active pro bono practice, including successful appeals on behalf of indigent and incarcerated clients in cases involving the Convention Against Torture and prosecutorial overreach. Mike previously served as an Attorney-Adviser in the Office of the Legal Adviser at the United States Department of State. In that role, Mike provided advice on a range of domestic and international legal issues arising in the course of the Department's work.
