Jayita Guhaniyogi '14

Jayita Guhaniyogi, PhD focuses her practice on patent litigation with an emphasis in the chemical, life sciences and pharmaceutical industries. She handles patent infringement litigation cases and provides general counseling on patent-related issues. Her experience spans all stages of patent litigation, including pre-suit investigations, fact and expert discovery, motion practice, claim construction, trial and appeal. Jayita combines her experience in life sciences and chemistry with her technical expertise to effectively streamline complex scientific issues for the Court. Her patent experience spans a wide range of technologies, including small molecule drugs, peptide, protein medicaments, stem cells, drug delivery, formulations, tissue transplants, medical devices, solid state chemistry, protein chemistry and purification and various indications including oncology, diabetes, cardiovascular, menopause and blood-related disorders. While Jayita's practice focuses on patent litigation, Jayita has also been involved in patent prosecution including IPR and interference proceedings, and due diligence matters. Prior to joining McDermott, Jayita worked as a patent litigator at various law firms. Prior to and during law school, she also worked as a patent agent in a global law firm, as well as in-house as intellectual property director for two biotechnology start-ups, where she was responsible for the overall management of corporate IP portfolios and outside counsel. Prior to her legal career, Jayita obtained a doctoral degree in biochemistry and molecular biology, where her research focused on structural aspects of bacterial chemotaxis. Jayita's postdoctoral research involved structural and biochemical elucidation of a peptidase enzyme that is deficient in a fatal childhood neurological disorder and cancer biomarker discovery.
