THE OPPORTUNITY: We have an exciting opportunity for a Construction Associate with 3-5 years of construction litigation experience to join our Washington, DC office. Few law firms in the country can match our preeminent national construction practice, which includes representation on some of the largest and high-profile projects in the United States and internationally. When unavoidable claims and disputes arise, we often implement creative alternative dispute resolution procedures to efficiently resolve claims and disputes based on practical business and legal advice. Our Litigation Department of more than 170 lawyers across the firm’s global platform offers a full-service litigation practice, with specific practice areas in commercial litigation, consumer financial services litigation, product liability, bankruptcy, class action defense, construction, eDiscovery, government contracts, trade secrets, computer fraud and non-competes, intellectual property, and securities. THE DAY-TO-DAY: As a Construction Associate in the Litigation Department, you’ll have the opportunity to work on interesting, challenging, and groundbreaking cases in collaboration with senior attorneys. We represent clients on a broad range of claims and disputes, including those involving delay and disruption, cost overruns, defective work, errors and omissions, non-payment, regulatory and code violations, and mechanic’s lien, stop payment notice and payment and performance bond claims and disputes. YOU HAVE: Experience with general commercial construction, complex construction projects and government contracts. Represented owners, contractors, design professional and/or sureties in the drafting, negotiating and administration of contracts as well as domestic and international litigation. Experience with some of the following construction matters: procurement-related issues, contract administration, risk management, dispute avoidance, claim documentation, equitable adjustments, impact and delay claims, default terminations, change order and extra work disputes, requests for equitable adjustments, payment and performance bond claims, mechanics’ liens, prompt payment and conditional payment disputes, construction and design defects, and bid protests. Excellent academic credentials, analytical skills and verbal and written communication skills required. Candidate must be admitted to DC bar, with Virginia and/or Maryland admission a plus.
