Description
King & Spalding, a leading global law firm, seeks a Lateral Conflicts Attorney to join its Conflicts & Business Review Department. The Lateral Conflicts Attorney will be a part of a team responsible for identifying and resolving conflicts of interest during the lateral hiring process, presenting any conflicts to the sponsoring partner, and working to resolve ethical conflicts and business relationship issues. The Lateral Conflicts Attorney will be responsible for reviewing conflict reports, drafting waiver letters, and communicating with lawyers and staff as necessary. This position offers work remote as an option, subject to location approval by the firm. Other duties may be assigned by Associate Director of Lateral Conflicts and Director of Conflicts and New Business Intake. Candidates will have the following skills and responsibilities: Works closely with lateral partner candidates, sponsoring partners, and the firm’s Recruiting Department to identify and obtain all information needed to perform conflicts clearances. Reviews and analyzes conflict search results for partner hiring, associates, counsel, summer associates, and other positions. Identifies potential conflicts of interest and works extensively with Firm partners, the sponsoring partner and the lateral partner candidate to resolve conflicts of interest. Prepares and distributes a conflicts analysis memorandum presenting all outstanding conflicts of interest for each lateral partner candidate. Organizes and tracks progress of lateral partner candidates through the clearance process. Assists lateral partners with opening transferred new matters, clearing potential conflicts of interest related to transferred new matters, and lateral partner integration. Works with Conflicts & Ethics Attorneys in the clearance of new matters as needed. Drafts informed consent letters and engagement letters. Implements ethical screens and conflict alert notices. Assists in answering questions from attorneys and other Firm personnel related to conflicts of interest, the new business intake process, lateral conflicts clearance process, and Firm policies. Requests and reviews additional conflicts reports or updated conflicts reports. Tracks personal stats. We are seeking someone to join our team who has a very strong work ethic and is willing to work outside of standard business hours as needed. Excellent oral and written communication skills are important, as well as exceptional critical thinking and problem solving skills. The right candidate must have sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, and be able to work well under pressure. The candidate must exhibit a demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines, and manage a heavy workload. Conflicts experience preferred, although not required. Must have a working knowledge of the rules of professional conduct. Juris Doctorate (J.D.) required and admission to one state bar. This position is currently remote.
