<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-jobDescriptionText" dir="ltr"><div> <p>Warby Parker is looking for a Principal Counsel to join our close-knit Legal team, report to our Head of Legal, and own a variety of legal matters. In this role, you'll advise the People team on a broad range of employment law and compliance issues that may arise across Warby Parker's offices and stores. You'll also assist the Head of Legal in managing litigation, enhancing our compliance program, advising business clients on regulatory matters, driving regulatory strategy, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, and researching applicable laws and regulations. While our ideal candidate is able to serve as an in-house generalist, a strong background in labor and employment will set you up for success in this role. We'll also count on you to work on dozens of assignments simultaneously and provide practical, clear, and concise advice to each department at Warby Parker. Think you've got the goods? Read on!</p> <p> <b>What you'll do:</b></p> <ul> <li>Provide day-to-day counseling and advice to the People team across a variety of areas, such as employee relations, dispute resolution, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour issues, internal investigations, and compensation and benefits</li> <li>Partner with the People and Retail teams on store openings and, if needed, closings and reductions in force</li> <li>Track legal and regulatory developments and provide proactive counsel to business partners</li> <li>Assist the Head of Legal in managing litigation, investigations, and other matters</li> <li>Assist the Legal team in enhancing Warby Parker's compliance program, including policy and training documents in the areas of healthcare compliance and commercial transactions, data privacy, HIPAA, FDA compliance, and records retention</li> <li>Counsel colleagues on a host of legal questions about contract interpretation, regulatory compliance, tariffs and trade, and more</li> <li>Review, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts (e.g., technology vendors, marketing vendors, supply chain agreements)</li> <li>Partner with the Head of Legal in government affairs</li> <li>Improve internal forms</li> </ul> <p> <b>Who you are:</b></p> <ul> <li>An attorney with a JD, admission to a state bar, and at least 5 years of relevant in-house or top-firm experience, preferably with a labor and employment group, practice, or focus</li> <li>Equipped with extensive knowledge of labor and employment law</li> <li>Experienced with litigating employment matters before state and federal agencies/court systems</li> <li>Experienced in compliance matters, particularly in the context of overlapping state and federal regulations</li> <li>Able to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements</li> <li>Confident in handling tasks and answering questions that you've never faced</li> <li>Capable of assessing both legal and business risks</li> <li>A skillful drafter and issue-spotter</li> <li>A clear communicator who's extremely organized and detail-oriented</li> <li>Not on the Office of Inspector General's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE)</li> </ul> <p> <b>Extra credit:</b></p> <ul> <li>Experience representing retail and/or emerging-growth companies</li> <li>Experience in developing compliance policies and programs</li> <li>An interest in lobbying and industry and government affairs</li> </ul> <p><b>Some benefits of working at Warby Parker for full-time employees:</b></p> <ul> <li>Health, vision, and dental insurance</li> <li>Life and AD&amp;D Insurance</li> <li>Flexible vacation policy</li> <li>Paid Holidays</li> <li>Retirement savings plan with a company match</li> <li>Parental leave (non-birthing parents included)</li> <li>Short-term disability</li> <li>Employee Assistance Program (EAP)</li> <li>Bereavement Support</li> <li>Optical Education Reimbursement</li> <li>Free eyewear</li> <li>And more (just ask!)</li> </ul> <p><b>Warby Parker requires all newly hired in-person or hybrid employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by their start date.
