That’s why we’re looking for a <b>Government Relations Attorney</b> in our Chevy Chase Maryland Office. Remote may be considered for the right candidate. The <b>Government Relations Attorney</b> will work under the supervision of the Legislative Counsel, and will be the company’s counsel for legislative and regulatory matters in the assigned states. In the course of your work you can expect to prepare policy briefings, testimony for pending legislative actions and provide thought-leadership and recommendations. You will also ensure appropriate company participation in industry group meetings, and work with policymakers, leaders of government, industry groups and lobbyists to influence public policy, monitor government-initiatives and advocate for specific plans to advance the company’s objectives.</p> <p></p> <p><b> Essential Functions:</b></p> <ul> <li><p> Serve as a primary corporate representative to State executive, legislative and regulatory branches of government in assigned States</p></li> <li><p> Advocate/oppose laws, regulations and policies favorable/unfavorable to the company and its business units/functions</p></li> <li><p> Develop and cultivate relationships with legislators, executive branch officials, policymakers and government staff</p></li> <li><p> Represent the company in connection with its membership in business and trade associations</p></li> <li><p> Review, analyze and provide recommendations on new and proposed legislation and regulations</p></li> <li><p> Work with the various business units to draft company positions</p></li> <li><p> Participate as a representative of the Office of Legislative Counsel on specific projects and process reviews</p></li> <li><p> Provide legal advice, both in writing and orally, concerning company operations with appropriate supervision from the Legislative Counsel</p></li> <li><p> Facilitate interaction with supervisors and co-workers</p></li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b> Job Requirements and Qualifications:</b></p> <ul> <li><p> Juris Doctorate (JD) and admitted and active licensed to practice in at least one State required</p></li> <li><p> Previous experience in government, advocacy, or related business activities and working with legislators, government agencies/regulators, lobbyists preferred</p></li> <li><p> Self-motivated and driven with the ability to work in ambiguous environments</p></li> <li><p> Demonstrated history of problem solving, project management &amp; organizational skills</p></li> <li><p> Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments</p></li> <li><p> Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information</p></li> <li><p> Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicting positions and have demonstrated priority setting skills</p></li> <li><p> Strong competency in written and verbal communication</p></li> <li><p> Willingness to regularly travel overnight and attend early morning and evening events</p></li> <li><p> Expected travel to/in territory 10-20%</p></li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b> Benefits:</b></p> <p> At GEICO, we make sure you have the support and resources to leverage and develop your skills, secure your financial future, and take care of your health and well-being.
