Championx is seeking a **Senior IP Counsel** based in Sugar Land, TX. This role will report to the General Counsel and support Chemical Technologies within ChampionX. The Senior IP Counsel will work closely with the company’s global technology and business groups and provide strategic guidance and hands-on support on all IP legal matters. Major responsibilities will include the oversight of the company’s IP registration strategy, providing commercially focused IP legal support globally on all IP matters, including joint development and licensing arrangements, reviewing and negotiating agreements, and finding solutions to complex intellectual property issues. **What’s In It For You:** * The ability to make an impact and shape your career with a company that is dedicated to improving lives and passionate about growth * The support of an organization that believes it is vital to include and engage diverse people, perspectives, and ideas to achieve our best * Thrive in a company that values sustainability, drives a safety-focused culture and empowers through continuous improvement * Comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company matching and more! **What You Will Do:** * Managing, implementing, and improving global Intellectual Property strategies for Chemical Technologies to support strategic business objectives including harvesting new inventions, leading invention evaluation boards, managing an IP budget(s), and overseeing internal resources and outside counsel responsible for patent and trademark prosecution * Drive freedom to practice for product development; evaluate and resolve product clearance issues * Provide advice and training to all levels of the company with respect to IP matters and strategy, including non-infringement and invalidity positions and the enforcement of IP * Engage and collaborate with the global Law Department of ChampionX * Conduct pre-suit infringement investigations * Negotiate and draft intellectual property agreements, including licenses, development, university agreements and all non-disclosure agreements * Conduct and supervise post-grant proceedings in the U.S. and other jurisdictions * Improve and develop processes * Serve as the IP subject matter expert on commercial transactions * Serve as Data Privacy point of contact * Advise management in the Law Department and in the business as to IP risks and opportunities in business and technology plans * Assist other lawyers in Chemical Technologies in negotiating agreements with detailed IP terms, including development agreements, IP licenses, NDAs * Structure, negotiate, and draft contracts to support global licensing and commercial activities * Assist marketing and communications teams with branding campaigns, including clearance and protection of new trademarks **Basic Qualifications:** * JD degree with strong academic performance * Minimum of five years legal experience (preferably at both a law firm and in-house), including patent prosecution or prosecution management * Licensed to practice law in Texas and admission to practice before the USPTO * Experience working directly with executives, business leaders and R&D teams * Ability to travel up to 20% both domestically and internationally * Good judgment and the ability to spot and prioritize potential IP issues as they arise * Basic knowledge of US and international trademark law, policies, and processes * Collaborative and business-oriented approach **Preferred Qualifications:** * Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or chemistry (or comparable training) * Ability to provide support in a wide range of other intellectual property areas, including trademark matters * Strong background in science and technology * Business acumen - capacity to learn business rapidly and serve as a business partner * International oil and gas industry experience * Good public speaking ability **About ChampionX** : ChampionX is a global leader in providing chemistry programs and services, drilling technology, artificial lift solutions, and automation technologies for the upstream and midstream oil and gas industry.
