We handle cases from initial investigation, pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motion practice, and, yes, even through trial.</p> <p></p> <p><br> Vail Resorts has a full-service legal department that handles varied and complex legal issues faced by a publicly-traded company. The legal department is made up of numerous specialized teams, including a Litigation Team that handles and oversees litigation and claims ranging from guest liability matters associated with year-round recreational activities to a broad range of commercial disputes, as well as regulatory and governmental matters.</p> <p></p> <p><br> Litigation Counsel will be primarily responsible for overseeing, defending, and handling lawsuits involving all companies within the Vail Resorts organization. While we work with many outside lawyers in the multitude of domestic and international jurisdictions in which we do business, we feel strongly that the both our company, and our individual lawyers, benefit from our litigation team developing and maintaining the skills necessary to be effective litigators and strong business advocates. Accordingly, your role may include being lead counsel yourself on matters that are handled internally.</p> <p><br> </p> <p><b>Job Specifications: </b></p> <ul> <li>Shift &amp; Schedule Availability: Full Time / Year Round</li> <li> Outlet: Corporate</li> <li> Other Specifics: Remote</li> <li> The expected range is $111,900 - $150,000 + Annual Bonus</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b><br> Job Responsibilities:</b></p> <ul> <li> Handling commercial matters and guest liability matters, which includes investigating claims; interviewing witnesses; drafting answers; drafting briefs/motions; drafting/responding to discovery; taking/defending depositions; conducting hearings and trial; handling settlement conferences and mediations; and handling appeals;</li> <li> Manage outside counsel handling all types of litigation, including development and management of budgets and alternative fee arrangements; provision of guidance on strategy and tactics of defense; and direct involvement in cases, as advisable;</li> <li> Become deeply involved and engaged with the business, supporting the Litigation Team, and business leaders on litigation issues;</li> <li> Proactively consider lessons learned for each matter and monitor trends in claims and litigation both inside and outside of the Company and advise and communicate regarding same within the Legal Department and with the business unit leaders;</li> <li> Provide advice and counsel with respect to Company activities, processes, and documentation, as requested;</li> <li> Conduct other litigation related tasks including effectively managing electronic discovery and legal holds, responding to subpoenas, and defending depositions of employees in third-party cases.</li> <li> Other duties as assigned.</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b><br> Job Qualifications:</b></p> <ul> <li> Hands-on experience handling the initial aspects of litigation, including the initial investigation, legal research, pleadings, motions practice, and some discovery; </li> <li>JD from accredited law school and active state bar license required, with ability to be admitted to the Colorado state bar; </li> <li>Minimum 4 years litigation experience;</li> <li> Strong presence and interpersonal skills, with the ability to quickly gain the confidence of clients and employees at all levels of the company;</li> <li> Excellent ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, in person, in writing, and by telephone, at all levels of the organization;</li> <li> Creative problem solver with strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to simultaneously handle numerous varied assignments;</li> <li> Ability to adapt as necessary and establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, subordinates, in-house attorneys, and members of the various business units;</li> <li> Must have a passion for promoting a positive, team-oriented culture that furthers the company mission of "Experience of a Lifetime;"</li> <li> Integrity and commitment to the highest ethical standards and personal values, including proven ability to maintain confidentiality.</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b><br> Preferred Skills:</b></p> <ul> <li> Deposition experience;</li> <li> Experience supervising paralegals, outside vendors, and other attorneys;</li> <li> Experience managing outside counsel and budgets;</li> <li> Successful track record in written and oral advocacy, including in dispositive motions;</li> <li> Experience resolving disputes through ADR, including mediation and arbitration;</li> <li> First or second-chair trial experience.</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><br> The expected range is $111,900 - $150,000 + Annual Bonus.
