As our Employment &amp; Litigation Counsel, you will bring expertise in labor and employment law and will be advising on complex employment matters across the company. Your advice and creativity will make an immediate impact by helping drive Blend's legal strategy. This role is a phenomenal opportunity to be part of a business-critical team and work on cutting-edge issues in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.</p> <p> Blend's Legal &amp; Compliance team is responsible for navigating Blend's broad market impact through an evolving and complex financial, legal, and regulatory environment. We enable our industry partners to continuously refine, build, and transact on our innovative business-to-business SaaS platform and other groundbreaking technology initiatives.</p> <p><b> How You'll Contribute:</b></p> <ul> <li><p>Provide advice and counseling on a broad spectrum of Federal and State employment law issues, including workplace policies and procedures, classifications, leaves of absence, accessibility/accommodations, performance management, recruitment, employee training, compensation and benefits, wage and hour, employee relations and investigations</p> </li> <li><p>Handle pre-litigation investigations and litigation matters including responding to demand letters, subpoenas and government-initiated inquiries, as well as respond to administrative charges with local agencies and assist in employment litigation matters and employment-related disputes</p> </li> <li><p>Draft employee-facing policies, employment-related agreements including offer letters, sales agreements and bonus plans, and playbooks for handling employment-related matters</p> </li> <li><p>Resolve disputes efficiently and cost-effectively</p> </li> <li><p>Efficiently leverage and manage outside counsel, including budget, staffing, strategy and work product</p> </li> <li><p>Provide support on a variety of non-employment topics depending your background and interest, for example, general litigation, privacy, product counseling, and corporate and transactional matters</p> </li> </ul> <p><b>Who You Are:</b></p> <ul> <li><p>4+ years of relevant employment experience in in-house legal departments, law firms, and/or governmental agencies</p> </li> <li><p>Experience advising on federal and state employment and labor laws, including FMLA, ADA, Title VII, FLSA, and other state/federal employment laws</p> </li> <li><p>Flexible, hard working and self-motivated to learn new legal skills and open to helping in a variety of legal and regulatory areas</p> </li> <li><p>Highly disciplined, able to make independent decisions and work with limited supervision while excelling in a fast-paced, dynamic and demanding environment</p> </li> <li><p>Inquisitive, engaged and proactive in identifying legal issues and risks and proposing creative and effective solutions</p> </li> <li><p>Able to anticipate and mitigate friction points and take the initiative to promptly resolve and learn from challenges</p> </li> <li><p>Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present sophisticated issues in a clear and persuasive manner</p> </li> </ul> <h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Bonus Points:</b></h3> <ul> <li><p>California labor and employment law expertise</p> </li> <li><p>Experience relating to executive compensation</p> </li> <li><p>Experience relating to sales commissions plans</p> </li> <li><p>In-house experience at a SaaS or fintech company</p></li> </ul> <br> <p> </p> <p>To comply with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share base pay ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location.</p> <p> For full time hires, the hiring base pay range for this position is between $170,000 and $220,000. Beyond base pay, Blend benefits and perks are described below.</p> <p> Final base pay offer amounts will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to function, level, geographic location, job related knowledge, skills, and experience.
