You will find the expected compensation, interview process, what to anticipate during onboarding, and your first 90 days listed in the job description for all Helix roles.</p> <p><b> What is special about this role:</b></p> <p> You will support the growth of both existing and emerging business lines at Helix, and guide and inform Helix's approach to healthcare regulations and complex regulatory frameworks in structuring and negotiating deals with health system partners, life sciences companies, vendors, and government agencies. You will work directly with both the VP of Legal, the Chief Privacy Officer and Head of Compliance, and collaborate with the broader Legal, Privacy &amp; Compliance Team and G&amp;A staff to support your personal and professional development. As part of a small but growing team, you will be a close and strategic partner to the Helix business, and will be expected to work independently while knowing when to escalate issues to senior attorneys and other managers.</p> <p><b> As a Regulatory &amp; Product Counsel, you will:</b></p> <ul> <li>Review and analyze complex healthcare regulatory and compliance matters (including anti-kickback, beneficiary inducement, self-referral laws, state licensure, insurance laws and HIPAA), translate their meaning and implications for the broader Helix team, and provide guidance on how to effectively execute in light of them.</li> <li>Collaborate with business partners to educate employees on regulatory changes and assist with plans for implementation of necessary changes.</li> <li>Develop and implement procedures, policies and programs that reflect compliance with applicable laws, rules and recommendations in the area of fraud, waste, and abuse, clinical research and diagnostic testing.</li> <li>Support the legal team with review of commercial contracts, as a regulatory subject matter expert.</li> <li>Develop excellent working relationships and act as a key resource between the company's Legal department and other functional groups and project teams, including Business Development, Partnerships, R&amp;D, Supply Chain/Ops, Marketing, Product and other teams to provide guidance in support of their business objectives.</li> <li>Identify ways and initiate projects to continuously improve templates, processes, and operations.</li> </ul> <p><b>About you:</b></p> <ul> <li>U.S. law degree and an active member in good standing of the California Bar.</li> <li>At least 6+ years of healthcare regulatory experience, including at least 2+ years of product counseling; experience advising on both federal and state healthcare regulatory matters is preferred.</li> <li>Exceptional organizational and planning skills and meticulous attention to detail.</li> <li>Ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task amid evolving business needs and priorities.</li> <li>Self-starter with ability to work independently and advise on matters involving ambiguity and in-flight strategy.</li> <li>Strong desire to improve processes and drive efficiency in legal operations.</li> <li>Willingness to roll up sleeves, dive in, and take care of tasks large and small.</li> <li>Interest in policy and procedure development as part of comprehensive legal risk management.</li> </ul> <p><b>Pluses:</b></p> <ul> <li>Familiarity with state and federal regulations regarding research and matters relating to big data research collaborations.</li> <li>Familiarity with healthcare privacy laws and willingness and interest in advising on privacy matters that intersect with healthcare regulatory matters.</li> <li>Prior experience working in-house at a healthcare organization</li> </ul> <p><b>Physical/Mental Demands:</b> This role requires prolonged periods of sitting while being able to view and read text on computer screens less than a few feet away. May periodically require lifting up to 10 pounds and occasional walking or standing. May require repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands, or fingers. May require meetings in person or via video conference (on or off-camera). Requires work in a typical office setting or may be eligible for remote work. Role also requires the ability to reason logically and make sound decisions; ability to understand, remember, and follow verbal and written instructions; and ability to perform in situations requiring deadlines.
