<b>Hiring Department</b> <br> <p>General Counsel Office</p> <br> <b> Job Description</b> <br> <p>Assigned a diverse range of research and projects related to labor and employment, litigation, contracts, research, intellectual property, tax and non-profit law, higher education law, privacy, compliance, healthcare, business transactions, construction, real estate, international programs, general business transactions and other areas as assigned by the General Counsel or his designee.</p> <ul> <li> Has awareness of internal/external legal challenges</li> <li> Performs research on a wide range of legal topics</li> <li> Provides research and project support for legal team</li> <li> Researches and analyzes routine legal problems/matters</li> <li> Uses analytical thought to assist in the research of legal matters</li> <li> Impacts the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team</li> <li> Assists legal team with document and litigation research support</li> <li> Develops working relationships with legal team and may work with external parties, as needed</li> </ul> <p><b> Key Responsibilities</b></p> <ul> <li> Draft and review contracts, agreements, court documents, and other legal documents</li> <li> Assist in internal investigations under the direction and supervision of OGC Counsel</li> <li> Conduct legal research on federal and state laws and prepare legal memoranda</li> <li> Assist in development of policies for compliance with state and federal law as well as University policies and regulations</li> <li> Assist and participate in court hearings, mediations, and depositions.</li> <li> Assist in advising University personnel on compliance and legal matters</li> <li> Perform other duties as required</li> </ul> <p><b> Supervision Received</b></p> <ul> <li> Completes work that is guided by legal/law matters and functional policies</li> </ul> <p><b> Supervision Exercised</b></p> <ul> <li> None</li> </ul> <p><b> Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities</b></p> <ul> <li> Requires sound conceptual and practical legal knowledge</li> </ul> <b>Shift</b> <br> <p>Monday - Friday, 8a-5p, with some weekends and evenings as needed</p> <br> <b> Minimum Qualifications</b> <br> <p>A Juris Doctor from MU or UMKC obtained within the last year</p> <br> <b> Anticipated Hiring Range</b> <br> <p>Hiring Salary: $70,000 per year</p> <p> Grade: GGS-010</p> <p> University Title: Law Fellow</p> <p> Internal applicants can determine their University title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.</p> <br> <b> Application Materials</b> <br> <p>Cover letter, resume, application, Law School Transcript, and Writing Sample</p> <br> <b> Benefit Eligibility</b> <br> <p>This position is eligible for University benefits.
