Essential Functions Pleadings: Knowledge of legal terminology and legal document formats in order to read, interpret, prepare, revise, and finalize legal documents; ability to create Table of Contents and Table of Authorities; demonstrated knowledge of Bluebooking and ability to cite check. Discovery: Aid attorneys in drafting and responding to discovery documents, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions; create and maintain discovery indices; organize, review, and analyze documents, including medical records; prepare deposition summaries. eDiscovery: Knowledge and experience with managing, processing, and hosting electronically stored information, including management and oversight of document coding and document utilization tasks; familiar with online repository systems for multiparty litigation and ADR proceedings, evidence tracking systems, document imaging/OCR, database administration and training; must have experience in either iPro or Relativity. Pre-Trial/Trial/Settlement: Organizes and indexes documents and evidence, including all exhibits and witness lists; prepares trial binders; arranges for transportation of all files and exhibits to and from the courtroom; prepares and issues trial subpoenas; assists in preparing witnesses for trial; serves as a liaison between attorneys and clients, witnesses, experts, vendors, opposing counsel, and courtroom personnel; assists with preparation of jury instructions; orders and reviews trial transcripts; drafting settlement agreements and distribution statements. Investigation: Manage organization and retention of all essential case records; gather case facts, documents, and evidence; create case investigation notebooks; create indices and chronologies of case facts and medical records; conduct client and witness interviews; conduct legal research from library sources and/or Westlaw and prepare memorandums regarding same; collaborate with client to investigate allegations. Courts: Demonstrated knowledge of court rules, including C.R.C.P. and F.R.C.P., and procedures as they apply; coordinates service and filing of all court documents with assistant, including individual subpoena service; communicates with courts on a regular basis in order to comply with specific procedures and rules. Calendar: Maintains and updates calendars, including all docketing, for all active cases. Technology: Type approximately 60 net words per minute; must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat Pro, iManage, Elite, iPro, Relativity, and DocuSign (or similar document management and time entry programs); strive to become proficient in new technology rollouts and willingness to attend trainings when offered. Teamwork: Ability to effectively communicate and work cooperatively with attorneys, staff, clients, coworkers, and vendors; proactively demonstrates effective teamwork and provides assistance to other paralegals as time permits; operates as a backup paralegal when needed; analytic ability to apply knowledge to practical applications and to foresee possible problems and effective solutions. Miscellaneous: Maintains confidentiality of all client and firm information; ability to work independently and effectively under time constraints and pre-set deadlines in an accurate manner with consistent high production; requires minimal supervision; ability to generate and implement new procedures for specific situations; willingness to meet the requirements of the position, accepting a wide variety of assignments as called upon; demonstrate skills in organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks; demonstrate reliability and willingness to work in a complex environment; other duties as assigned. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, benefit eligible position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Required Education and Experience High school degree or equivalent and a minimum of five years of paralegal experience or equivalent, including eDiscovery experience. Preferred Education and Experience A bachelor’s degree and six years of paralegal experience. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Paralegal Certificate.
