Data is fundamental to our client services at Marsh McLennan. We are looking for a forward-thinking and collaborative lawyer to join our small but mature Global Privacy team. As Senior Privacy Counsel, you’ll report to our Global Chief Privacy Officer and have the opportunity to lead impactful privacy initiatives at a global Fortune 200 stalwart.</p> <p></p> <p><b> What can you expect?</b></p> <ul> <li> An opportunity to lead initiatives involving diverse business and function teams to help drive our data protection agenda and ensure we follow best practices</li> <li> The ability to be part of a dedicated privacy team that strives to deliver data protection while focusing on client service excellence and innovative digital offerings</li> <li> To join a truly global organization that can offer excellent ongoing career development opportunities</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b> Core role responsibilities</b>:</p> <p></p> <p> While all members of our privacy team should expect to support a steady flow of new initiatives and projects on emerging privacy issues, we will rely on you to:</p> <ul> <li> Serve as a key thought leader and driver on streamlining our privacy operational model to meet growing business demand and the need for global consistency</li> <li> Be a subject matter expert on privacy requirements impacting big data, digital products, and websites (including cookies and other online tracking technologies)</li> <li> Lead cross-functional teams advising on compliance with new privacy and cyber laws and regulations</li> <li> Maintain our Privacy Risk Assessment tool and procedure</li> <li> Update and train colleagues on privacy related policies and procedures, including Handling Information Appropriately, De-Identification, Data Handling Guidelines, and Website Compliance</li> <li> Maintain client and vendor contract templates and train internal lawyers on same</li> <li> Maintain the Global Incident Response Procedure, train global Incident Response Leaders, and serve as an Incident Response Leader on significant incidents</li> <li> Present privacy risk considerations to MMC’s Global Privacy Committee</li> <li> Partner with the HR and Benefits teams on privacy by design requirements for new initiatives and third-party providers</li> <li> Advise on privacy issues in mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures</li> <li> Liaise with regulators on privacy-related complaints, audits, and investigations</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b> What you need to have:</b></p> <ul> <li> BA/BS degree</li> <li> JD degree</li> <li> Minimum of 5+ years of experience working in a corporate environment or law firm</li> <li> Deep knowledge of U.S. and global data protection laws</li> <li> Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, with a focus on privacy and security terms</li> <li> Experience responding to data incidents</li> <li> History leading cross functional or multi-jurisdictional teams</li> <li> Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced and dynamic environment</li> <li> Ability to work within a matrix environment, managing relationships with different business stakeholders and to problem-solve effectively across multiple geographies</li> <li> Strong communication (verbal and written) skills</li> <li> Strong planning and organization skills</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b> What makes you stand out:</b></p> <ul> <li> Proven experience within a global matrix structured organization</li> <li> Experience interacting with regulators and/or law enforcement authorities on issues relating to data protection and privacy</li> <li> Experience in managing the end-to-end process of data subject rights requests, particularly access requests</li> <li> Good understanding of information technology systems and their security requirements</li> <li> Familiarity with data lakes and governance, digital platforms, cookie and other third party online tracking, and privacy enhancing technologies</li> <li> Any CIPP certification</li> </ul> <p></p> <p> Marsh McLennan (NYSE: MMC) is the world’s leading professional services firm in the areas of risk, strategy and people. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
