For more information about Penn's vaccine requirements, visit the Penn COVID-19 Response website for the latest information. <br> <br> Posted Job Title <br>Associate Vice Provost for Research <br> <br> Job Profile Title <br>Associate Vice Provost <br> <br> Job Description Summary <br>Reporting directly to the Senior Vice Provost for Research (SVPR), the Associate Vice Provost for Research (AVPR) leads the University's Research Integrity Office (RIO) and is responsible for the University's Research-Related Financial Conflicts of Interest (FCOI) Program. This role shares oversight with other University and School-based offices for research integrity matters. The AVPR works collaboratively with University and School-based research support offices to ensure that research activity at the University adheres to the highest standards of integrity and conducts research in compliance with all applicable government laws, regulations, and University and School-based policies. <br> <br> Job Description <br> <br> <b>Duties:</b> <br> <b>Duties include but are not limited to:</b> <br> Supervise and manage RIO professional and support staff and operations, including performance evaluations, orientation, training, recommendations on employee hiring, transfer, promotion, wage change, discipline, termination, and similar actions. <br>Oversee and participate in day-to-day operations of the FCOI Program (details below). <br>Serve as an internal authority on relevant laws and regulations, keeping abreast of current changes that may affect University and School-based policies and procedures. <br>Coordinate with University and School-based research support offices with compliance responsibilities, including but not limited to the Office of Research Services (ORS); the Institutional Review Board (IRB); Penn Center for Innovation (PCI); the Research Compliance Officer; the Office of General Counsel (OGC); the Office of Audit, Compliance, and Privacy; the Office of Research Support Services (ORRS); and the Office of Clinical Research (OCR). <br>Serve as a strategic advisor and take the lead on special investigations and projects, including external audits, relating to issues of FCOI and research integrity. <br>Present to various committees on FCOI, Research Misconduct, and related matters. <br>Determination and oversight of RIO's role in matters involving research misconduct or other deviations from accepted practices in conducting research following governing Penn policies. <br>Other duties as assigned. <br> <br> Financial Conflict of Interest Program (details) <br> <br> Oversee and participate in day-to-day operations of the FCOI Program, including screening and review of financial disclosures; analysis; determinations for expedited processing; preparation of summaries for the Conflict of Interest Standing Committee (CISC); and drafting determination letters and FCOI management plans. <br>Staff the Conflict of Interest Standing Committee. <br>Monitor compliance with FCOI management plans. <br>Report FCOI management plans to research sponsors, as required. <br>Develop FCOI training customized for the specific needs of Schools and departments. <br>Develop guidance for investigators on FCOI implications related to the formation of startup companies, inventorship, and other factors that may impact research participation. <br> <br> <b>Qualifications:</b> <br> Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited law school or a doctoral degree in a scientific field with experience in research compliance. Five to ten years of experience in a research-intensive, academic setting. Excellent organizational skills and a pragmatic approach to challenges. Strong interpersonal skills, including working productively with leadership, faculty, scientists, trainees, and students, to handle sensitive matters with diplomacy and discretion. Ability to analyze technical, complex, and sensitive issues. Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written. <br> <br> <b>Preferred Qualifications:</b> <br> Experience with a role in an FCOI Program. <br>Responsibility for staff management. <br>Responsibilities requiring multiple stakeholder engagement to achieve goals. <br>Leadership on teams for mid-to-long-term projects. <br>Experience with various databases, including those in institutional and government agencies. <br>Experience yielding a working knowledge of the conduct of clinical and basic science research. <br>Knowledge of academic-industry collaborations and entrepreneurial endeavors. <br> <br> <b>Application Requirement:</b> <br> A Cover Letter and Resume/CV are required to be considered for this position.
