This position is expected to collaborate with our fully vaccinated team in the Rosslyn office at least two days per week (Wednesdays are required) and has flexibility to work remotely for the remaining days.</i></p> <h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> Position Overview:</b></h2> <p> The manager and staff counsel will be responsible for providing legal counsel and policy support on a range of legislative, policy and regulatory projects related to the consumer packaged goods industry and for ensuring the organization is in compliance with political law, lobbying disclosure rules, and political action committee requirements. Reporting to the senior director and associate general counsel, the manager and staff counsel will serve as a critical accountability partner and advisor to the government affairs team, political action committee, and regulatory affairs initiatives.</p> <h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> Key areas of responsibility:</b></h2> <p><b> Issues Management</b></p> <ul> <li>Partner with the federal affairs team to execute advocacy efforts.</li> <li>Review stakeholder comments, talking points and presentations on assigned issues.</li> <li>Track and advise on priority legal issues for various regulatory agencies including FDA, USDA, FTC, and EPA.</li> <li>Research and analyze legislative and regulatory proposals and guidance.</li> <li>Identify potential legal compliance implications or legal issue outcomes for emerging issues and measures.</li> <li>Review corporate correspondence and testimony to ensure compliance with relevant statutes, organizational alignment, and best practices.</li> </ul> <p><b>PAC and FEC Compliance</b></p> <ul> <li>Advise stakeholders on PAC compliance ranging from reimbursement through tax law and disclosure requirements.</li> <li>Support the preparation and filing of reports related to federal, state and local lobbying compliance, including FEC filings.</li> <li>Support the development of communications for PAC contributors, board members and relevant stakeholders regarding PAC activities and progress.</li> <li>Ensure compliance with campaign finance laws and disclosure requirements.</li> </ul> <p><b>Experience &amp; Education: </b></p> <ul> <li>Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required.</li> <li>5+ years of combined relevant work experience required.</li> <li>Bar admission required; Bar admission (or eligibility to be admitted) to the state of Virginia preferred.</li> <li>Educational background in public health, biochemistry, microbiology or chemistry desirable.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience with PAC and/or lobbying law compliance required.</li> </ul> <h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Skills:</b></h2> <ul> <li>Ability to leverage legal analysis for a variety of needs.</li> <li>Careful attention to detail and accuracy.</li> <li>Excellent written communication and proofreading skills.</li> <li>Exceptional interpersonal skills including relationship-building.</li> <li>Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.</li> <li>Highly collaborative and able to work and thrive in a cross-functional team environment.</li> <li>Experience working with organization leadership and “managing up” to keep timelines on track.</li> <li>Receptive to feedback and direction and in search of constant self-improvement.</li> <li>Quick study, excited to learn the many complexities and nuances of the CPG industry.</li> <li>Strong drive for results and enthusiasm for accomplishing challenging goals.</li> <li>Advanced proficiency in Office 365 Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.</li> </ul> <br> <p></p> <p> This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
