This role within the Legal Department of Kemper Health reports to the General Counsel, Kemper Health and is located at our Oklahoma City office. The role requires an attorney with knowledge of the insurance industry and a proven record of successfully handling complex legal and compliance matters within heavily regulated industries. This person will possess strong judgment, work with an appropriate sense of urgency and provide proactive, business-focused counsel to the Health Division of Kemper.</p> <p><b> Position Responsibilities:</b></p> <ul> <li> Coordinate, direct and advise on Market Conduct Exams.</li> <li> Prepare various regulatory filings.</li> <li> Provide legal advice on all aspects of the life and health insurance business including the design, sale and administration of life, accident, health and other insurance policies and agent and distribution matters.</li> <li> Provide proactive and timely legal counsel in support of strategic and tactical business initiatives.</li> <li> Identify and mitigate risk to Company by providing relevant counsel and effective business-focused solutions.</li> <li> Monitor and implement insurance laws, regulations, and guidance.</li> <li> Build and maintain expertise in state and federal insurance and privacy laws and regulations.</li> <li> Support business partners in finding legally compliant solutions to challenging business problems.</li> <li> Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with management and internal business clients, agents, outside counsel and Company partners to gain a deep understanding of the Company’s business, challenges, risks, and opportunities.</li> </ul> <p><b> Position Qualifications:</b></p> <ul> <li> Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from ABA-accredited institution and member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar (or equivalent).</li> <li> 6 or more years of combined law firm and in-house legal</li> <li> Experience in insurance industry; life and health insurance a plus.</li> <li> Demonstrated experience interacting with state insurance regulators to resolve issues and meet company objectives.</li> <li> Superior verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.</li> <li> Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.</li> <li> Results driven with strong business acumen possessing the ability to influence others.</li> <li> Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization and the flexibility to adapt to and lead through change.</li> <li> Strong intellectual curiosity and a positive attitude.</li> </ul> <p><i> Kemper is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
