The site offers an open floor plan to allow cross-functional collaboration and encourage innovation, outdoor patio and sports area, Fitness center, onsite dry-cleaning services, Wellness Center, mother’s rooms, and more.</p> <p></p> <p><b> The Role</b></p> <p></p> <p> We have an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, and intellectually flexible lawyer to support our US and global teams in the BioPharmaceuticals Business Unit. The role will operate under the supervision of the Deputy General Counsel, BioPharmaceuticals and provide legal support to business teams across the Respiratory, Vaccines, and Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism therapeutic areas. The BioPharmaceuticals Legal team advises the business on key legal risks and opportunities across the discovery, development and commercialization of our life-changing medicines.</p> <p></p> <p> The role is based in our US Sales &amp; Marketing headquarters in Wilmington, DE.</p> <p></p> <p> We will be considering both Senior Counsel and Counsel candidates ready to make the next move in their career.</p> <p></p> <p> The Legal Counsel will contribute to business decisions with quality legal advice and analysis. Critical thinking and influencing skills are key, as the position has a direct impact on business activities with significant reputational or financial value and risk. The job-holder will be responsible for the strategy, management and budgeting of global litigation and government investigation matters facing the Company.</p> <p></p> <p> In addition, the Legal Counsel will be a proactive business partner with an understanding of internal and external trends, and must be able to articulate legal considerations to business partners clearly and concisely. Areas of experience should include the US regulatory and compliance framework, specifically the US False Claims Act and Anti-Kickback Statute, as well as product liability risks and contract evaluation and dispute resolution.</p> <p></p> <p><b> Major Responsibilities: </b></p> <ul> <li><p>Independently lead contract disputes, product liability litigations, government investigation matters, as well as IP litigations.</p></li> <li><p> Partner with outside counsel and internal AZ collaborators to undertake strategies that bolster AstraZeneca’s defensive positions, slow the growth of litigations, and facilitate the ability of the BioPharmaceuticals business area to achieve its objectives.</p></li> <li><p> Supervise all aspects of the establishment of appropriate budgets and ensure that costs are delivered within acceptable budget variances.</p></li> <li><p> Assist the BioPharmaceuticals business area to assure that its operations are conducted in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.</p></li> <li><p> Optimize the legal position of the BioPharmaceuticals business area in all of its endeavors.</p></li> <li><p> Handle legal risk appropriately in the assigned AstraZeneca client area, with assistance as appropriate from the Deputy General Counsel.</p></li> <li><p> Advise on legal aspects of contractual arrangements and opportunities with customers and partners.</p></li> <li><p> Advise on mitigation strategies for fraud and abuse and other legal risks related to market access and commercial strategies for assigned products.</p></li> <li><p> Stay abreast of legal implications of developing trends and develop a “big picture” perspective.</p></li> <li><p> Work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and collaborate on legal advice on commercial regulatory issues within the broader legal team.</p></li> <li><p> The Legal Counsel is encouraged to act as a role model to other legal staff and demonstrate leadership within the client teams and legal teams in which they operate.</p></li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b> Minimum Requirements</b></p> <ul> <li><p> Law degree and admission to the bar of at least one state.</p></li> <li><p> Minimum 3 years relevant legal practice experience in legal department of corporation or major law firm, preferably working with the pharmaceutical industry.</p></li> <li><p> Proficiency in the litigation laws relating to the approval, sale and marketing of pharmaceutical products and experience in counselling on legal issues in this area.</p></li> </ul> <ul> <li><p> Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and experience in effectively working on and collaborating with business teams with ability and willingness to develop these skills further.</p></li> <li><p> Self-awareness and ability to articulate legal issues and considerations and effectively provide advice to business clients.</p></li> <li><p> Professional maturity and judgment to help analyze and solve legal problems and deal effectively with clients and third parties.</p></li> <li><p> Strong negotiation and counselling skills.</p></li> <li><p> Ability to make logical, well-reasoned, and timely decisions in the moment, along with leadership skills that enable effective implementation of such decisions.</p></li> </ul> <p></p> <p> Highly Desirable Requirements</p> <ul> <li><p> In depth understanding of US drug pricing and reimbursement process and experience advising on associated risks</p></li> <li><p> Experience in working with European medicinal legal and regulatory regimes and European drug regulatory agencies</p></li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b> Why AstraZeneca?</b></p> <p></p> <p> At AstraZeneca, we put patients first and strive to meet their unmet needs worldwide.
