Bring your brightest version of you and have a brighter work day here. **About the Team** The Intellectual Property team combines technical and legal expertise with a deep understanding of the business to build a strategic IP program that ensures the right assets are in place to use at the right time against the right party. The team also delivers on a host of cross-functional efforts from open source to litigation, commercial licensing to fun. **About the Role** We are seeking an outstanding Associate General Counsel, Patents to focus on strategic patent portfolio development. The ideal candidate is a confident self-starter who has a passion for technology, a strategic bent to their patent prosecution, and a willingness to make connections among a sea of technology and product organizations. The abilities to both delve deeply into data and systems, and effectively communicate to attorneys, business leaders, and technologists with varied understanding of IP are crucial for success. Primary responsibilities will include improving and evangelizing the patent program to internal customers, invention identification and harvesting, close collaboration with outside counsel on drafting and prosecuting patents, and bringing a data-driven approach to organizing and visualizing the portfolio. There are also opportunities for patent licensing and acquisition work, as well as supporting IP aspects of M&A, litigation, commercial licensing, employment, ethics, and open source activities. **About You** **Basic Qualifications:** * J.D. Degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least 1 state bar * Eligible to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office * 12+ years of patent prosecution experience **Other Qualifications:** * Strong interpersonal skills * Proactively finds and solves issues * Demonstrated experience with open source, and transactional or litigation support * Experience with SaaS, web technologies, or developer platforms a bonus * In-house experience a plus * Sense of humor is essential #LI-KL As a federal contractor, Workday is requiring all new hires to verify that they are fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 within 72 hours of beginning employment with Workday, consistent with applicable law.
