<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-JobComponent-description css-16y4thd eu4oa1w0"><div> <p>The Center for Family Representation’s (CFR) immigration team represents non-citizens parents involved in the family regulation system in Manhattan, Queens, Bronx and Staten Island. The team also represents clients referred from CFR’s Youth Defense Practice - young people who are charged in the criminal legal system who are either removed from the Supreme Court Youth Part or charged in Manhattan and Queens Family Courts as juvenile delinquents.</p> <p> In addition to representing clients in removal proceedings in Immigration Court, in affirmative immigration applications before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service, and in other applicable administrative and judicial proceedings, the Immigration Senior Staff Attorney will have additional professional development opportunities. Candidates for Immigration Senior Staff Attorney should have at least three years of litigation experience, strong client counseling skills, the ability to model best practices, and a willingness and aptitude for taking on an additional leadership and managerial role at CFR. Professional development opportunities will include supervision of staff attorneys and interns and could also include increased training opportunities and responsibilities, recruitment and management of CFR’s legal internships, and working with supervisors and executive staff on strategic planning, policy work and overall management and improvement of the practice. All senior staff are expected to demonstrate an aptitude for productive problem-solving, a commitment to CFR’s current DEI work, and a desire to contribute to the stewardship of CFR; this includes the ability to positively and productively contribute to the work culture at CFR in communications and work with staff at all levels, including progressive discipline where necessary. Candidates for senior staff also need to be well organized in order to work efficiently and effectively beyond their own caseload and will be expected to work collaboratively with staff from the family defense, criminal defense, civil defense unit and Youth Defense Practice.</p> <p> The candidate should expect to:</p> <ul> <li><p> Represent clients in affirmative, defensive, and appellate immigration matters;</p></li> <li><p> Supervise one to two staff attorneys in CFR’s Immigration Practice</p></li> <li><p> Support CFR Immigration’s intake/referral teams as needed;</p></li> <li><p> Support CFR’s Immigration supervisor with other projects including policy and Communications advocacy;</p></li> <li><p> Advise CFR’s criminal YDP and family defense practices about the immigration consequences of each proceeding;</p></li> <li><p> Stay abreast of rapidly changing immigration rules, laws, pending legislation, and procedures;</p></li> <li><p> Represent CFR clients with SIJS applications in Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan and Bronx Family Courts;</p></li> <li><p> Conduct community education, training and outreach, and promote the work of CFR and CFR Immigration;</p></li> <li><p> Assist with training and mentoring of law students, volunteers, and pro bono attorneys/scholars;</p></li> <li><p> Promptly maintain data in our case management system and client legal notes; and</p></li> <li><p> Assist with the continued growth and improvement of CFR’s immigration practice.</p></li> </ul> <ul> <li> Candidates for this position should have a minimum of 3 years of experience as an attorney that includes directly representing clients in all aspects of USCIS and immigration court proceedings.</li> <li> Familiarity with the intersection of immigration with other legal issues is especially helpful, i.e., criminal, Article 10, and public benefits.</li> <li> Applicants should be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work as part of a team.</li> <li> Candidates bilingual in Spanish or French are strongly encouraged to apply.</li> <li> This is the ideal position for a professional who enjoys taking initiative and developing best practices in a new program and who enjoys the exhilaration and challenges of a growing endeavor.</li> </ul> </div></div>
