Job Description: Sands Anderson, a full-service mid-size Mid-Atlantic law firm, continues to grow in geography and strategic practice area. We are seeking an experienced Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Attorney to join our dynamic team. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining complex employee benefits programs, including retirement, health and welfare, equity, and executive and deferred compensation programs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in analyzing the impact of Code Sections 409A, 457(f), 280G, and 162(m), and negotiating with the IRS, DOL, and PBGC to find favorable solutions for clients. Key Responsibilities: Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive employee benefits programs. Analyze and ensure compliance with Code Sections 409A, 457(f), 280G, and 162(m). Negotiate with regulatory bodies such as the IRS, DOL, and PBGC. Counsel clients on ERISA issues related to mergers, acquisitions, defined pension plans, cash balance plans, collective bargaining agreements, and retiree health plans. Advise clients on the Affordable Care Act, wellness programming, HIPAA, and HITECH requirements. Work with a diverse client base, including for-profit, tax-exempt entities, large health systems, and governmental entities. Participate in the Firm’s Policy Committee and Recruiting Committee. Lead the firm’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice. Job Requirements: License to practice law in Virginia Extensive experience in employee benefits and executive compensation. Strong knowledge of Code Sections 409A, 457(f), 280G, and 162(m). Proven ability to negotiate with regulatory bodies. In-depth understanding of ERISA, the Affordable Care Act, HIPAA, and HITECH. Experience working with a diverse range of clients. Leadership experience and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
