That’s why we’re looking to hire an experienced <b>Managing Attorney</b> to manage all Staff Counsel office activities relating to the defense of lawsuits against GEICO insureds in liability suits, and on behalf of GEICO in subrogation, Uninsured Motorist (UM) and Underinsured Motorist (UIM), and PIP suits or arbitrations, filed in courts of limited and unlimited jurisdiction.</p> <p></p> <p><b> Job duties and responsibilities:</b></p> <ul> <li> Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda</li> <li> Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department</li> <li> Prepare and file pleadings, motions, and discovery, to include handling depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath, and defending by trial, arbitration, or mediation all matters assigned, as applicable</li> <li> Travel in the State of Colorado when required to attend trials, motion hearings, arbitrations, depositions, management meetings and conferences.</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b> Qualifications:</b></p> <ul> <li> Juris Doctor degree required</li> <li> Current admission to the Colorado Bar is required OR willing to apply to the Colorado Bar and subsequently move there if hired is also acceptable</li> <li> Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Colorado and meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable</li> <li> Minimum of (7) years of litigation experience in insurance defense or personal injury</li> <li> Must be able to travel as required, including but not limited, to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences</li> <li> Must be able to communicate in a professional manner in person, via telephone and written correspondence/email</li> <li> Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner, to be understood by customers, clients, co-workers, and other employees of the organization</li> <li> Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills</li> <li> Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b> Benefits:</b></p> <p></p> <p> At GEICO, we make sure you have the support and resources to leverage and develop your skills, secure your financial future, and take care of your health and well-being.
