Job Summary The Litigation and Enforcement practice group at Ropes & Gray is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Litigation Associate with native Japanese language abilities (writing, reading, speaking) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in enforcement and investigation, compliance, dispute litigation and arbitration. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual who has a collaborative mindset, ability to lead teams, analyze complex legal issues and provide strategic solutions, to contribute significantly to our dynamic legal practice. The attorney in this role can be located in either our Boston, Chicago, New York, San Francisco or Washington, D.C. office, with willingness to travel to and spend time in other offices, including in Asia. Duties/Responsibilities The Attorney in this position will be expected to: provide comprehensive legal support in various litigation matters/enforcement and compliance matters, including enforcement actions, investigations, and dispute resolution; assist in developing and maintaining compliance programs, ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations; conduct thorough investigations into legal matters by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders; represent clients in arbitration proceedings, prepare legal documents and provide strategic guidance throughout the arbitration process; stay updated on relevant laws and regulations, and conduct legal research to support case strategies; effectively communicate with clients, providing legal advice and ensuring the highest level of client satisfaction; and travel to Japan as business needs arise, for in-person meetings with clients. Required Skills/Abilities Candidates must have six – ten years of proven legal experience representing public companies, fund sponsors, and financial services clients in the U.S. and throughout Asia in enforcement actions and investigation, developing and implementing compliance programs and handling various aspects of dispute litigation. Experience representing clients in litigation or arbitration proceedings is highly desirable. Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Japanese; native-level proficiency in spoken and written Japanese is essential for effective communication with clients and counterparts. Admission to practice in the state of Massachusetts, or eligibility to become admitted in that jurisdiction quickly, will be required.
