**Description** The CP Division enforces the Consumer Protection Act and other state and federal laws prohibiting unfair or deceptive business practices, antitrust matters, and performing charities enforcement. It investigates potentially unlawful conduct, and, when appropriate, files enforcement actions in state or federal court. It also works cooperatively with other state Attorney General offices to further multistate investigations and litigation. This position will assist with those investigations and handle all phases of civil litigation, including discovery, motions practice, trial, and appeal. Salary commensurate with comparable state agency positions and candidate experience. Questions regarding the position may also be directed to the same email address.** The Nebraska Department of Justice is dedicated to assuring equal employment opportunity to applicants and employees in all aspects of personnel administration without regard to political affiliation, race, color, national origin, sex, age, marital status, mental or physical disability, or religious creed and with proper regard for their privacy and constitutional rights. 1221 N St. Lincoln, NE **Examples of Work** These cases will require the candidate to: * Manage a robust caseload; * Direct investigations by providing guidance and legal counsel to the Division’s investigators and auditors; * Draft memoranda, pleadings, motions and other litigation documents; * Review and analyze documents and other evidence produced to, or obtained by, the Division in the course of an investigation; * Prepare investigators, auditors and other witnesses to provide testimony in court; * Provide analysis of proposed legislation relevant to the Division’s work; * Collaborate with state and federal law enforcement agencies in the investigation and resolution of cases of common concern; * Utilize the Division’s electronic case management system to record case activity; * Maintain confidentiality regarding ongoing investigations and other matters not subject to public disclosure; * Work independently to resolve each case, either through litigation or negotiation. * Litigate case from the investigative stage through the appellate stages. **Qualifications / Requirements** REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an ABA accredited law school and a license to practice law in Nebraska, or clear ability to be licensed in Nebraska as soon as possible. Minimum two years’ experience in a law firm or government agency. PREFERRED: Complex litigation experience. Experience representing a law enforcement or regulatory agency. OTHER: Applicant accepting a job offer must pass a background check. **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** Maintains and demonstrates a high level of professionalism and the ability to communicate effectively with others. Must be dependable, focused, detail- oriented and accurate in their work. Strong legal writing and oral advocacy skills required. Candidates with knowledge of state consumer protection laws, or prosecutorial experience, are preferred. A demonstrated commitment to public interest work is also considered. Some travel will be necessary and required.
