The Role We are looking to recruit a Paralegal to join our market leading Disease practice in our Manchester office. This role involves handling a mixture of claims including employers’ liability and disease claims on behalf of a variety of clients. We are interested in an experienced Paralegal that has experience in managing a caseload of Employers Liability claims alongside handling cases through to trial. The caseload for this role will involve the defence of all types of short tail and long tail Occupational Disease work as well as exposure to Personal Injury claims. Day to day duties will include handling cases from start to finish, carrying out investigations into liability and quantum, obtaining precognitions, analysing medical evidence, reporting to clients and dealing with all procedural aspects of a file. The position offers the candidate the opportunity to regularly appear in court. There will also be the opportunity to assist senior colleagues with high value and complex cases Key Responsibilities Sub-heading Managing a caseload of litigated Fast Track and Multi-Track employers’ liability and disease Llability claims up to a value of £100,000 Drafting of Court documents within the Civil Procedure Instruction of Counsel and experts where appropriate Assessing liability and quantum and preparing reports/advice Making and responding to offers and negotiating settlement of both liability and quantum as and when necessary Managing client MI expectations and SLA requirements Negotiating fixed recoverable costs and disbursements Essential Skills & Experience An undergraduate law degree or equivalent (minimum 2:1 required) Previous paralegal experience within personal injury litigation (Defendant or Claimant), ideally with an EL/Disease background A high level of accuracy and attention to detail Excellent Organisational Skills The ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently by managing time in a fast paced environment A professional manner with the ability to build relationships internally and externally Assertive and confident with a "can do" attitude to work Willingness to learn and develop skills/knowledge Paralegal Academy Joining the Disease team within our Casualty practice means you will be part of our Paralegal Academy. The training provided in the academy will be tailored to varying levels of experience, so all our Paralegals are supported when it comes to their development and career progression. There is also the opportunity to apply for our Casualty SQE qualification programme once you have completed the required amount of work experience in the firm.
