This Senior Paralegal will work in the Litigation, Arbitration, and Employment (LAE) practice group to provide support to lawyers during the entire litigation process from the initial information-gathering stage through discovery and trial. Subject to the supervision of the lawyer(s) responsible for the matter, daily responsibilities include maintaining correspondence and discovery; supporting hearings, trials, and administrative proceedings, cite checking briefs, gathering documents and other exhibits for filings; and handling filings in state and federal court. Paralegals also play a significant role in the retrieval, review, and production of documents, both incoming and outgoing. In addition, this role will provide support for all trials and/or arbitrations, working in conjunction with IT and Advanced Client Data Solutions to ensure all security requirements are followed and best practices are consistently applied. There is a billing requirement for this role of 1,650 hours per evaluation year and will be located in our Houston office. JOB DESCRIPTION Prepare, finalize, and file pleadings in accordance with applicable state and Federal rules for filing with court; Handle document retrieval, review, organization, and production (electronic and hard copy, as needed); Maintain case pleadings, correspondence, discovery, and research for large volume cases; Cite-check and edit legal documents; Coordinate deposition logistics, including communication with court reporters; Maintain document, transcript, and work product databases; Organize and prepare exhibit lists and/or privilege logs; Coordinate with Advanced Client Data Solutions team on initial case consultation potentially monitoring preservation, collection, processing and production of client electronic data; Act as liaison between ACDS, discovery attorneys, IT, service providers, outside counsel, and other team members; Coordinate work with outside document/litigation vendors, including adherence to strict deadlines; Ensure all engaged vendors are in compliance with the firm’s security protocol, the firm’s bidding process, and the firm’s conflicts and confidentiality requirements; Closely monitor project/case status and provides routine status reports, including task completion reports and data delivery schedules; Train lawyers, Business Team, and other paralegals on use of litigation support applications; Identify and oversee the team’s use of software tools or products to manage cases, drive efficiencies, memorialize investigative steps, and maintain relevant work product; Assist with trial site preparation and attend trials, as needed; Supervise temporary team members, as needed; Participate in the firm’s global Responsible Business program; and Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED SKILLS Familiarity with the following software: Concordance, IPro, Opticon, CaseMap, TimeMap, LiveNote, Sanction, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Relativity, and Concordance FYI, LiveNote, FTP (File Transfer Protocol), encryption protocol and all of Microsoft Office, especially Excel & Access; Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and communication (verbal, written, editing) skills; Strong organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects at one time and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with or without direct supervision; Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with or without direct supervision and coordinate multiple projects; Proven client service skills, with the ability to engage with different departments to plan and problem solve; Ability to meet changing deadlines and balance competing demands; Ability to assess cost/benefit of a course of action and to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions; Ability to effectively present routine information in one-on-one or small group situations; Exercise sound judgment and decision-making abilities; and Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information. EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE Five (5)+ years of litigation experience in a large law firm or equivalent preferred; Experience with litigation support data applications and databases, preferably in a law firm or corporate law department setting preferred; Experience with electronic discovery support, including coordination of vendor and data management for both in-house and web-based database platforms desirable; Bachelor’s degree preferred; and ABA-approved paralegal certificate desirable. HOURS Core hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., including one hour for lunch. Must be available for overtime as needed, both on evenings and weekends.
