Job Description: Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) seeks an exceptional financial services attorney to join our team of driven legal professionals. In this Counsel position, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement SVB’s next-generation suite of financial products and services for our most innovative clients. You will advise on a range of legal and regulatory issues related to the structuring, implementation, and delivery of the financial products and services that our commercial bank and asset management clients require. You will establish and maintain legal guidance for complex transactions. You will actively collaborate with colleagues across a spectrum of disciplines, including commercial bankers, foreign exchange traders, asset management advisors, product designers and developers, risk and compliance officers, and operational teams, all working at the intersection of finance, technology, and design. You will bring your knowledge and abilities to bear to provide full product life-cycle counseling, from ideation and development to launch, operation and sunset. In addition, you will provide meaningful and engaged contributions to SVB Legal’s ongoing commitment to develop best-in- class practices. At SVB, we embrace a connected workplace with a flexible, hybrid working model to take advantage of our remote and in-person collaboration capabilities. While this position is ideally located in or near one of the following key SVB locations: California (San Francisco) or New York (New York City), there is flexibility to consider candidates in other locations near an SVB U.S. office. Up for the challenge? Here's what we're looking for in a candidate: * Curiosity. A colleague with a growth mindset and a spirit of continuous learning, who is eager to think creatively and engage with multiple financial products and services on a daily basis. * Flexibility, empathy, and adaptability. These attributes will allow you to collaborate effectively with colleagues in Legal, the business, and our compliance and risk functions to implement practical, risk-calibrated solutions. * Drive. A willingness to roll up sleeves to build the operational infrastructure that is part of building a business is essential. * Knowledge. Proven capability and familiarity with at least one category of financial products and services (derivatives, asset management, and/or investment funds experience preferred), including typical documentation and a clear understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks upon which design and delivery of these financial products and services rests, such as Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Act, the Commodity Exchange Act, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Investment Company Act of 1940, banking laws, securities laws, and the rules and regulations promulgated by the CFTC, SEC, Federal Reserve, NFA, and FINRA. * Accountability. We expect you to take ownership of matters to which you are assigned, seize the initiative to engage with colleagues within Legal and across the organization, seek out additional information relevant to the task at hand, ask hard questions, and provide great legal counsel for the issues of today and tomorrow. * Discipline. Our success depends on our ability to execute as a team, so we must be able to depend on your ability to reliably memorialize guidance and analysis delivered to the business in the course of building and implementing new products and solutions. * Humility. The nature of our mission demands that we gracefully admit and learn from mistakes. In addition to the above qualities, we seek a candidate with these attributes: * 3 to 5 years of relevant legal and on-the-job experience, either at a top-tier law firm or in-house; * Admission to either NY or CA bars (if licensed in NY and residing in CA, eligible to register as in-house counsel in CA); * A J.D. from a top tier law school and excellent academic credentials; and * Strong professional references, especially from your current employer. Come join and contribute to a best-in-class legal team! * * * * #LI-Remote Base Pay: $190,858.00 - $221,085.00 Actual starting base pay will be determined on skills, experience, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. Total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other perks, as outlined in any formal offer made.
