Position Summary We are hiring talented associates to be a part of our financial restructuring team in Los Angeles. We are looking for team player with strong communication and research skills. You will joining a nationwide team that works on both debtor and creditor representations in complex situations. Our practice includes presenting and litigating in court and the negotiation of plans of reorganization and out-of-court recapitalization transactions. Our recent notable representations include Hertz car rental, the Official Committee of Creditors to Celsius Networks, LLC, and Lordstown Motors Corporation. You should expect to work closely with partners and senior associates. Our associates interact directly with clients, opposing counsel, and the court. You will be expected to handle a wide range of responsibilities, including (1) legal and factual research and investigation, (2) drafting written responses and court documents, (3) communicating with opposing counsel, and (4) preparing for and participating in court. Responding to client needs means being flexible about your approach to working hours, and you will have to be comfortable dealing with deadlines. Your practice will require working alongside colleagues from other practices across the firm. You will be required to manage teams of attorneys and multiple workstreams to accomplish the client’s goals. Our Practice Area We are a market leader in restructuring, guiding clients though out-of-court workouts and court processes in jurisdictions around the world. Our work includes providing advice and executing strategic transaction across the distressed continuum, from advising issuers and lenders on liability management transactions, conducting large investigations of failed firms, and representing debtors, creditors and other parties in interest in court in chapter 11 cases. The Financial Restructuring and Insolvency practice is a national practice that has been involved in nearly every large restructuring in the last 15 years. We have partners located across the country in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Chicago and Houston. We have built a reputation of being a strong team that produces first-rate work and results. Our work often spans other specialties within the Firm, such as M&A and project finance, and associates will work on a wide range of matters. We are an international law firm, with 47 offices in over 30 countries. While our practice is primarily an U.S. federal court practice, our clients are often international and large corporate restructurings rarely do not have international aspects. The international breadth of our firm and expertise is our calling card and reflected in most of our work. Duties and Accountabilities1 Drafting of all types of corporate and reorganization documents, including disclosure statements and plans of reorganization Conducting complex research and drafting analysis of factual and legal issues Drafting agreements and corporate documents Conducting due diligence Communication with clients Assisting clients with corporate governance Analyzing complex capital structures and financial issues Preparing for and participating in witness interviews, depositions, and court hearing Preparing for, attending, and participating in court hearings. Assisting develop business strategies and client pitches. Qualifications 2 years experience working in financial restructuring and insolvency, complex litigation or other business law. Experience with investigations, legal research and writing, persuasive brief writing and oral presentation. A Juris Doctor (JD) degree (LLM or foreign equivalent) from an accredited law school required Admission, or the ability to become admitted, to a U.S. Federal Court is required. Strong writing and time management skills are mandatory, as is the ability to stay calm under pressure when juggling multiple projects.
