The Role:**
Morning Consult is looking for an entrepreneurial, business-oriented lawyer to
support its Operations team as well as cross-functional teams across the
company. The Associate Counsel, Privacy & Compliance will be primarily
responsible for providing data privacy and compliance advice to business
stakeholders, and supporting the development and maintenance of key privacy,
compliance and ethics protocols & standards company-wide.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate an entrepreneurial ethos toward issue-
spotting and problem-solving in the data privacy space and possess the drive
and technical skills necessary to immediately add value in supporting the
company’s data privacy and compliance ecosystem. The Associate Counsel,
Privacy & Compliance will be developing, managing and improving privacy-
related workflows and processes. They will also organize, track and advise on
all privacy-related contractual obligations. Lastly, they will identify and
resolve privacy and compliance issues and help on ad hoc projects that come
with a scaling, high-growth company. Success in this role requires a
collaborative, services-oriented mentality, a willingness to embrace tactical
details without missing strategic priorities and skill in distilling complex
legal concepts into simple, actionable business advice.

### **Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:**
* Day-to-day responsibility for advising business units across the company on compliance with applicable domestic and international privacy laws and regulations
* Serve as a key privacy advisor on large and small business transactions, including both customer and vendor software and services sales
* Review, assess, establish and maintain company data processing practices and documentation, including conducting periodic audits, supporting the company’s information security governance infrastructure and managing procedures for handling data subject access requests
* Partner with product development and engineering personnel to anticipate and mitigate privacy and compliance risks, and programmatically support efficient and scalable privacy by designing policies, procedures and practices
* Review and consult on compliance matters arising in connection with the company’s commercial agreements
* Develop, manage and deliver employee training modules covering company data privacy and compliance policies, procedures and best practices
* Monitor existing and developing domestic and international privacy laws and regulations, and advise business units on the potential impacts of proposed and pending legislation
* Work closely with the Senior Associate Counsel, Privacy & Compliance, as well as outside counsel, to research topics and provide actionable advice to internal stakeholders
* Ensure the company conducts its business according to all applicable laws and regulations
* Foster a workplace with the highest moral, ethical and legal standards to deliver an environment that promotes respect, innovation and creativity
* Perform such other compliance tasks and duties as may be required or assigned from time to time
### **Desired Skills:**
* J.D. with excellent academic credentials
* Duly licensed to practice law, in good standing in at least one U.S. state jurisdiction, and in compliance with any local restrictions that apply, including those specific to the physical location of the attorney
* 1 to 3 years of legal practice with direct experience providing privacy-related advice to SaaS and/or other technology companies, either in an in-house or law firm setting
* Familiarity with and/or experience advising on privacy and compliance matters pertaining to the GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and other privacy laws and regulations
* Preferred CIPP certification
* Specific, demonstrable experience assessing and implementing enterprise-wide data privacy and information security policies and procedures
* Software and technology background
* Ability to work independently while exercising appropriate judgment in communicating relevant issues and matters to appropriate company stakeholders
* Extremely practical and business-oriented approach to problem-solving
* Ability to take a stand on critical issues while maintaining the respect of, and influence among, key business partners
* Comfort working across all departments and job levels
* Ability to handle competing deadlines—and shifting priorities—with minimal supervision
* Willing to take feedback, learn and grow; an ethos of continuous self-improvement

The expected salary range for this position is $107,500 - $174,900, with a
midpoint of $141,200.
In most cases, we target the midpoint of our salary ranges for new hire
compensation. This placement is reflective of full proficiency in a role.
