Position description The Miller Institute for Global Challenges and Law is seeking to hire an Empirical International Law Fellow focused on subfields of refugee law, antitrust law, state responsibilities in time of crisis, and policy diffusion. The Miller Institute for Global Challenges and Law is based at UC Berkeley School of Law, which benefits from one of the leading international law programs in the nation. Building on UC Berkeley's history of and commitment to research and public service, the project will be empirical, interdisciplinary, comparative, and international. The Empirical International Law Fellow will work on academic research and publications related to international law. Specifically, the project will focus on state responsibilities in times of crisis, on the diffusion of laws around the world, and on the role of international organizations in coordinating global responses. There will be particular emphasis in the areas of refugee law, immigration law, and antitrust law. Primary Responsibilities: Conducting research on empirical international law, under the direction of and in collaboration with Berkeley Law faculty, researchers, and colleagues at other institutions; Drafting white papers, reports, and outreach materials (including social media, op-eds, and other) for policy-focused audiences, under the direction of faculty; Assisting faculty and other researchers in organizing and facilitating meetings, workshops, and other convenings; Assisting with other miscellaneous tasks for the project broadly. Duties will be adjusted as applicable in response to campus guidelines relating to COVID-19. Additional materials may be requested of finalists. This position is in Berkeley, but can be located remotely with willingness to travel to Berkeley as needed.
