Our hybrid model combines a mix of in-person at an AlixPartners office (Tuesday, Wednesday, &amp; Thursday) and remote working options for Monday and Friday.</p> <h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> What you'll do</b></h4> <p> The Data &amp; Privacy Attorney is part of our Legal, Compliance, and Risk team and will be tasked with supporting the Firm's compliance with privacy and data protection regulations, negotiating agreements involving processing personal data, and providing advice on developing and maintaining privacy, data protection, and data governance frameworks, procedures, policies, and guidelines that align with relevant legal requirements and industry best practices. The person in this position will interact and collaborate with stakeholders across multiple business and Corporate Services functions, Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management colleagues, and client-facing personnel.</p> <p> The Legal Counsel position reports to the Managing Counsel – Data &amp; Privacy and can be situated in our Southfield, Michigan or London, UK office. Paid relocation is not available for this position.</p> <ul> <li>Advise members of the Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management contracts teams in relation to data protection provisions in a variety of commercial agreements, including master services agreements, engagement letters and vendor agreements.</li> <li>Provide guidance to stakeholders on applicable privacy and data protection laws and their application to the Firm's business activities.</li> <li>Support and enhance the data privacy compliance program for the Firm's global operations.</li> <li>Conduct vendor due diligence, data protection impact assessments, legitimate interest and transfer risk assessments.</li> <li>Provide support in relation to improving and enhancing data mapping activities, including vendor data flows and due diligence.</li> <li>Provide assistance in relation to requests from data subjects to exercise their rights, including to access, erase, and correct their personal data and object to the processing of their data.</li> <li>Provide support in relation to data security incident responses.</li> <li>Collaborate with other members of the Legal/Risk Management Team, Information Technology and other firm stakeholders to assess and develop recommendations with respect to the Firm's data management and data governance practices, policies, and procedures and end-to-end data lifecycle.</li> <li>Support ongoing work to meet evolving requirements relating to international transfers of personal data and data localization.</li> <li>Monitor developments in relation to new and evolving global privacy laws and manage projects to deliver compliance with those laws and industry best practices.</li> <li>Contribute to training on data protection requirements and best practice to corporate services departments and client-facing teams.</li> <li>Additional responsibilities as identified. This description is not designed to encompass a comprehensive listing of required activities, duties, or responsibilities.</li> </ul> <br> <p></p> <h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> What you'll need</b></h4> <ul> <li>J.D. with a minimum of 3 years' experience of counseling and compliance in the data privacy and data protection field.</li> <li>Active license to practice law in jurisdiction where hired, or the ability to obtain such admission within a year of employment or within the time frame required by applicable regulations.</li> <li>Experience advising on EU/UK and US privacy and data protection laws including GDPR, Data Protection Act and CCPA.</li> <li>Experience drafting and negotiating data protection provisions in commercial contracts.</li> <li>Experience drafting and reviewing privacy and data protection policies.</li> <li>Experience conducting privacy impact assessments and handling data security incident responses.</li> <li>Exposure to data management and data governance considerations, as well as corporate deal/transactional work, is beneficial.</li> <li>Strong teaming skills and ability to approach work with flexibility and a positive attitude.</li> <li>Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in English.</li> <li>Excellent attention to detail along with rigor and ability to meet critical deadlines and deliverables.</li> <li>Ability to positively interact with personnel at the Firm, both independently and as part of a team and across all business units.</li> <li>Ability to work well under pressure and respond to urgent situations where necessary.</li> <li>Solid organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize effectively; ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.</li> <li>Willingness to work outside of normal U.S. business hours, and as unique projects/needs arise.</li> <li>Ability to work full time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday.</li> <li>Must become familiar with, and promote and abide by, our Core Values as defined by the AlixPartners' Code of Conduct and foster an inclusive environment with people at all levels of an organization.</li> <li>Must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
