GEICO’s Government and Regulatory Affairs team is looking for two experienced Government Relations Counsel to join our team to advance the Company’s legislative and regulatory agenda. The individuals will be responsible for building relationships and interacting with key third parties, including public officials, industry associations and other non-governmental organizations. These positions will involve domestic travel to effectively represent GEICO’s interests. Primary Responsibilities: <ul> <li> Leverage experience and relationships with state policymakers to effectively advocate GEICO’s legislative and regulatory agenda. </li> <li> Build and maintain a network of key policymakers, including state legislators, heads of relevant executive agencies and their staff, industry members, trade associations, and other respected voices to amplify GEICO’s advocacy efforts. </li> <li> Support the development of GEICO’s policy priority positions, and strategies to achieve those objectives </li> <li> Ability to quickly and accurately understand state legislative and regulatory proposals and their impacts, including working with internal business partners to shape GEICO’s positions and assist with compliance strategies. </li> <li> Assist in identifying and managing NAIC proposals/models/recommendations and state-specific legislative and regulatory developments that could impact GEICO. </li> <li> Position and leverage the company’s influence on key issues in individual states, and within NAIC, NCOIL and other relevant organizations. </li> <li> Assist in preparing comment letters as well as internal memos on key developments. </li> <li> Oversee and coordinate efforts of outside firms and lobbyists, as well as driving GEICO’s agenda with trade associations and coalitions related to various initiatives. </li> <li> Draft and execute strategic political contribution plans in consultation with leadership; oversee applicable grassroots political engagement. </li> </ul> Basic Qualifications: <ul> <li> Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, licensed to practice law in at least one state. </li> <li> Minimum 5-7 years relevant government affairs experience in insurance industry required. </li> <li> Significant property/casualty insurance experience with knowledge of auto insurance laws and regulations strongly preferred. </li> <li> Experience dealing with insurance departments and state legislatures. </li> <li> Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills tailored to different audiences. </li> <li> Ability to articulate the organization’s positions in an impactful and persuasive manner to senior decision makers and industry leaders and to offer advice on complex issues to business professionals at every level of the organization. </li> <li> Skill to collaborate with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders to deal with complex issues. </li> <li> Client-service oriented and enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented, dynamic environment. </li> <li> Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision of day-to-day tasks while also appropriately identifying matters requiring escalation to management. </li> </ul> <br> Annual Salary $162,000.00 - $254,000.00 The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
