Patent Agent – Electrical Engineering This role drafts and prosecutes patent applications within the engineering specialty stated. It communicates regularly on such subject matter, reviews associated literature, and drafts connected documentation. This position requires onsite work in Boston (at least 3 days weekly at Two International Place, Boston, MA 02110). Some remote flexibility is also allowed (up to 2 days per week). Position does not require travel. Because the firm’s Boston, Massachusetts headquarters location represents the main site from which the role will be based full-time, permanently and long-term, one must therefore live in the Greater Boston area. Job Functions: Draft new patent applications by blending knowledge of pertinent legal processes and an electrical engineering background. Prosecute patent applications involving new discoveries in electrical engineering. Communicate and interact regularly through meetings with internal and client personnel, working as Executives, Patent Agents, Intellectual Property Attorneys, Staff Scientists and Engineers. Locate, review, and analyze appropriate literature, scholarly articles, publications, and other patents. Contribute to drafting knowledge-sharing and other material, including written reports, analytical summaries, scientific-opinion documents, and patentability profiles. Position, note, is non-supervisory over others. It does not have subordinate, direct reports. Role is a hands-on, individual contributor, responsible for the work described above. Role, in short, to disclaim, it does not manage other personnel of the firm. Essential Competencies: One year of experience is required in the following areas: Working as an in-house staff engineering resource, contributing written electrical engineering content for legal professionals to use in drafting patent applications. Supporting the patent prosecution process by contributing feedback regarding electrical engineering. Conducting technical research in electrical engineering. Working as an in-house staff engineering resource, specifically to analyze complex issues, conclusions, research methods, data, and calculations, all pertinent to electrical engineering. Qualifications: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in electrical engineering or related field. Registration as a Patent Agent with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).
