Summer Associate

Davenport Evans

Davenport Evans chooses its summer associates from students at the top of their classes at top regional and national law schools. Each summer associate is assigned supervising attorneys in both the litigation and business sections of the firm. This, plus the size and depth of our firm, allows us to involve summer associates in all areas of the firm’s practice. In the business practice, summer associates perform a variety of tasks, including drafting corporate documents relating to commercial transactions. In addition, summer associates research a variety of legal issues for business clients. Associates also participate in client meetings and closings for a well-rounded experience. In the litigation area, summer associates commonly draft pleadings, motions and briefs. They perform in-depth research with respect to on-going cases. They are also encouraged to attend depositions, hearings and trials on a regular basis. We work with second-year summer associates to obtain 2-L certification from the South Dakota Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the District of South Dakota. This allows our summer associates to represent clients in discovery proceedings and in court if and when the opportunity arises. Prior summer associates have argued motions and conducted depositions as part of their duties. To learn more about the Davenport Evans Summer Associate program, please contact lawyer Ashley Brost.
