We are currently recruiting for a Banking - Training PSL to join our Banking department in London on a permanent basis. Role purpose To develop and deliver training to A&O’s banking lawyers, while co-ordinating with Banking product groups regarding the training they receive from others – particularly in London, for English law and particularly in the early stages of their career. Key relationships Global banking training team Central banking Know-How and PSL team Banking Knowledge Lawyers/PSLs (both in London and abroad) – together with many PSLs in other teams Banking training partners Banking partners responsible for trainees in London Many Business Teams, including Talent & Development and Early Careers teamRole and responsibilities Legal Knowledge Can design and deliver training using legal skills developed through experience in the finance area. Key Areas of Responsibility New lawyer training Developing, delivering and managing (with support from the Global Banking Training Co-ordinator) training for banking lawyers, particularly early in their career - through the A&O Global University of Banking and London banking-wide NQ and trainee training programmes Dovetailing that training with what our lawyers receive through their product lines and London operational groups, working closely with Banking Knowledge Lawyers/PSLs and Banking partners responsible for trainees in each of those groups Integrating our banking training with firm-wide programmes, such as by providing input on London-wide programmes lawyers may receive before they reach us (like the SQE and London trainee induction) Giving new lawyers who join our London banking team through different routes, such as solicitor apprentices, secondees from other offices and experienced hires, access to similar/appropriate training Working with Knowledge Lawyers/PSLs, partners and others in offices abroad to share training, materials and best practice about common junior lawyer tasks (particularly for our legal professionals in A&O Belfast and Perth) English law training Managing regular training sessions for banking lawyers globally about topics of interest across product lines and offices, particularly English law topics Developing and delivering training (alongside partners, senior associates and PSLs) on core English law topics which are relevant to all product groups, such as guarantees and security, executing and amending documents and fundamental issues like trusts and insolvency Combining training and knowhow Delivering training (at first alongside our PSLs and then independently) about making best use of our banking knowhow resources, both through regular live sessions and on-demand training for new joiners Updating knowhow (particularly for new joiners) around common questions, such as our banking survival/best practice guides – and responding to queries from fee-earners around our networkKey requirements Qualified lawyer – Minimum 4 years PQE or similar Strong technical knowledge and experience in at least one of our key banking product lines Interest and potential to develop excellent presentation skills through practice and feedback Resilience to gather and act on constant feedback, both for individual training sessions and strategic direction Excellent written communication skills and ability to give practical, commercial advice about complex issues both in guides and responding to queries An enthusiastic team player who is excited about taking individual responsibility for ensuring that A&O’s banking lawyers receive world-class training while working collaboratively with others A lawyer with the knowledge and credibility to win respect from all stakeholders they encounter, including partners, PSLs, their colleagues abroad and new joiners to the firm at all levels Someone willing to work beyond their comfort zone across multiple banking product lines and who maintains a global mind-set even when working primarily in or with our London team A professional who can build trust across a wide network to leverage their impact throughout the banking practice and wider firm (including with our Business Team members) Should you require additional support at any stage of the recruitment process due to a disability or a health condition, please do not hesitate to contact a member of Allen & Overy’s recruitment team who will work with you to provide any reasonable adjustments as required.
