Projects - Associate - Melbourne

Pinsent Masons

BRIEF Our Projects team is absolutely thriving, and we are in need of another project delivery lawyer to support the delivery of major infrastructure and energy projects for domestic and international clients. The construction of major infrastructure and energy is part of our DNA. We have created a full service offering unique in the Australian market, with capability to support clients throughout their entire project lifecycle. Working with some of the biggest names in both sectors, our team of leading lawyers provide transactional, advisory and contentious services on complex local, international and multi-jurisdictional projects. As a core member of the Projects team, this role will work closely with senior lawyer colleagues on high profile energy and infrastructure projects primarily with major contractors and developers. Our team in Melbourne services projects across APAC and nationally, so an interest in working on high profile projects across the region would be an asset. We have a great team of skilled senior lawyers looking forward to training and developing the career of a more junior colleague. We are looking for a lawyer (preferably from 2 to 4 PQE) with project delivery experience (developing strategy and preparing advice and contractual claims on live energy or infrastructure projects), although we will consider candidates with front-end or back-end construction experience (including in more traditional building markets) with a passion for working closely with clients on live projects. The project delivery skill set among lawyers remains an emerging one, so this is an exciting opportunity for front-end construction lawyers looking to stay with the project when the contract is signed or for back-enders looking to focus on solving problems before they turn into protracted formal disputes. THE TEAM As a leading construction firm in Australia, we advise participants on the largest and most complex major projects in the country and regionally. Focusing on the infrastructure and energy sectors, our team regularly acts for head contractors and developers in relation to the preparation and negotiation of EPC, O&M/FM, TSI, BOP, D&C, PPP and infrastructure financing documents, joint venture arrangements, supply contracts, connection agreements and other ancillary construction and services agreements. Our team also provides strategic procurement advice in relation to the early development phases and structuring of projects. CANDIDATE SUMMARY At Pinsent Masons we do things a bit differently, and look for high-performers who are not afraid to try new things and question the status quo. To be successful in this role, you will also have the following skills and attributes: An Australian qualified lawyer with at least two years post-qualification experience Demonstrated experience in construction law Strong organisational skills, with the ability to assimilate information quickly and handle multiple priorities under pressure or within tight timeframes Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to liaise with clients and diverse stakeholder audiences Attention to detail and proficiency in drafting correspondence Be commercially aware and enthusiastic about business development Enjoy working in a fast-paced high-performing team Bring energy and passion to the role!
