Job Description | Associate - Marine Disputes - Hamburg The Role Department: Marine Disputes Location: Hamburg Job Description | Associate - Hamburg Role: Permanent The Team The team are based in Hamburg and specialise in all aspects of maritime work including charterparties, bills of landing, shipbuilding, admiralty/casualty, salvage, General Average, yachting, personal injury and marine insurance disputes. The team acts for shipowners and operators, charterers, P&I Clubs, marine insurance companies such as hull and machinery insurers, utilities companies, yacht-owners and insurers, and ship-managers. The team has many ongoing LMAA arbitration references, plus English Commercial Court, Admiralty Court and other High Court cases and long experience of litigating and arbitrating maritime disputes. They have particularly strong relationships in the German ship-owning, operating and insurance markets but also an international client base with many clients also in Scandinavia, Cyprus and Greece. We work for various members of the International Group of P&I Clubs. Our team has lots of experience in the offshore wind sector including advising on high value charterparties and services agreements, and vessel reservation agreements. Examples of work recently undertaken by the team include: Advising on Actual Total Loss and Constructive Total Loss cases relating to luxury yachts which were damaged at sea. High value cases in London (LMAA) arbitration relating to alleged breach and repudiation of two long term time charterparties. Acting for clients in relation to the consequences of the war in Ukraine under charterparties. Advising Owners’ interests in relation to casualties such as engine room fires, and heavy weather damage/cargo shifts. Acting for Owners and Hull Underwriters in a Lloyd’s salvage branch arbitration under an LOF salvage contract. The Role The candidate will work in Hamburg, but practise in English law in an established market-leading team of English qualified maritime lawyers. The ideal candidate will have experience in some (not necessarily all) of these areas: Dry Shipping disputes work Admiralty cases Maritime sanctions work. Essential Skills & Experience The successful candidate will have qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales or another relevant jurisdiction. The Solicitors Act 1974 requires practising solicitors to have a practising certificate. All solicitors and registered European lawyers in legal practice or employment in England & Wales must comply with the requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s continuing professional development scheme (CPD Scheme).
