The successful candidate will handle a range of complex commercial and regulatory litigation, including high-profile matters involving significant financial or reputational risk to the company. He or she will serve as a partner to leaders across the business and build effective relationships with outside counsel. He or she will provide legal counsel to the business and project teams on compliance with laws and regulations and responding to external audits by enforcement agencies. </div> <div></div> <div> <br> Clark would prefer to locate the position at its office in McLean, VA but would consider a candidate near one of its regional offices, located strategically in major cities across the nation. </div> <div></div> <div> <br> Responsibilities </div> <ul> <li> <div> Manage Clark’s activities in court and arbitration, including litigation and settlement strategies, and managing outside counsel. </div></li> <li> <div> Serve as a strategic issue spotter for the business, identifying risks and opportunities early, positioning issues favorably, objectively and accurately assessing strengths and weaknesses, and minimizing or resolving disputes where possible. </div></li> <li> <div> Spearhead initiatives to prevent litigation against the company, including by identifying structural and process improvements and providing professional training on risk mitigation across the organization. </div></li> <li> <div> Assist with internal or government investigations. </div></li> <li> <div> Assist with external government audits. </div></li> <li> <div> Advise and train the business and project teams on compliance with laws and regulations. </div></li> <li> <div> To the extent desired, work across Clark’s Legal Department to gain exposure to Clark’s construction contracts and subcontracts, corporate governance issues, and related work. </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <div> <br> Basic Qualifications </div> <div></div> <div> In addition to a JD with strong credentials and membership in good standing with a state bar, the successful candidate will have: </div> <div></div> <ul> <li> <div> Litigation Expertise – 5 to 7 years of litigation experience, including experience assessing legal, reputational, and business risk in difficult and high-stakes situations under acute time pressure. Experience with construction and/or government contracts is an advantage, but not necessary.
