Phillips 66 &amp; YOU - Together we can fuel the future <br> <br> The Counsel, Labor &amp; Employment will report to the Deputy General Counsel – Litigation, Employment &amp; IP and will work with colleagues in a large law department in a publicly traded, Fortune 100 international energy company. <br> <br> <b>Responsibilities May Include:</b> <br> Providing advice and counsel to professionals in the Human Resources department on a wide variety of labor and employment matters, including responding to accommodation requests, employee relations, internal workplace investigations, wage-and-hour compliance, labor relations, paid leave requirements, discipline, and compensation and benefits for employees in numerous states in the US. <br> <br> Identifying relevant state and federal legislative and/or judicial changes to labor and employment laws in states in which the Company operates and providing updates to interested parties of such changes. <br> <br> Reviewing and providing legal counsel and recommendations for company policies as appropriate to address changes in legal requirements and/or Company initiatives. <br> <br> Providing guidance for labor union negotiations, dispute resolutions, and arbitrations. <br> <br> Creating and maintaining in-house legal library of forms and agreement templates. <br> <br> Managing outside counsel in defending single-plaintiff employment actions; coordinating discovery with Company employees and outside counsel. <br> <br> Assisting HR professionals with the preparation of position statements in response to charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and reviewing same. <br> <br> <b>Required Qualifications:</b> <br> Legally authorized to work in the job posting country <br> <br> J.D. degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association <br> <br> A member in good standing of any U.S. bar <br> <br> 4 or more years of experience with HR, EEO, labor and employment laws and practices <br> <br> 2 or more years of experience managing labor and employment litigation, including discovery and motion practice <br> <br> <b>Preferred Qualifications:</b> <br> Working knowledge and legal experience with regards to labor and employment issues and laws with particular emphasis on those pertaining to wage/hour, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodations, and traditional labor <br> <br> Prior litigation experience, as well as experience handling governmental agency investigations and charges (Department of Labor, EEOC, NLRB) <br> <br> Excellent written and oral communication skills required; ability to effectively manage, communicate and build credibility with internal business clients and outside the Company with opposing and outside counsel, experts, witnesses and vendors <br> <br> Ability to work independently within broadly defined objectives, being able to perform job functions without extensive supervision <br> <br> Close consultation with business management, HR professionals, and members of the Phillips 66 Legal Function is essential <br> <br> Ability to consider Company policies, procedures, operations and industry practices <br> <br> Ability to prepare and present clear, concise and persuasive oral/written opinions, reports, correspondence and presentations <br> <br> Effective use of knowledge and experience in establishing and weighing alternatives for making decisions associated with area of responsibility <br> <br> Ability to conduct quick, accurate legal research on matters within or outside the primary area of expertise <br> <br> Ability to work inside an office setting with other co-workers, utilizing current technologies and applications <br> <br> Total Rewards <br> <br> At Phillips 66, providing access to high quality programs and care for you and your family is important to us.
