Corporate and Transactional Associate

The Corporate Group of Locke Lord is seeking an associate with 3-6 years of private company mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, debt finance and general corporate experience to join the Firm’s Private Equity and Venture Capital group in the New York office. Experience with private equity transactions is preferred. The candidate must be admitted to the bar in New York or preparing to obtain such admission in 2023 through reciprocity with another state and have excellent academic credentials. Essential Functions: Candidates for Associate positions must be able to provide effective and reliable legal services to clients and supervising attorneys. Associates are routinely required to: Draft transaction agreements and documents with efficiency and clarity; Negotiate deal terms alongside clients and supervising attorneys; Manage transaction closings and processes; Provide thorough factual and legal research and analysis; Competently and professionally communicate with clients and supervising attorneys; and Work with and oversee more junior team members. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Creativity and flexibility to handle numerous types and structures of transactions; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines; Ability to work professionally and effectively with Clients, Partners, Associate and Support Staff; Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team; Exceptional organization and project management skills; and A desire to grow the practice and engage with the Chicago business community. The expected base salary range for New York based candidates in this position is $240,000 - $320,000. Actual base salary will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual’s class year, years of experience, skills, qualifications, office location and anticipated annual billable hour targets (1850 hours annually versus 1950 annually). Requirements: Juris Doctor. Qualified candidates must be and remain licensed to practice law and in good standing in New York.
