<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-jobDescriptionText"><div> <p><b>When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives.</b></p> <p></p> <p><b> Job Type:</b></p> Regular <p></p> <p><b> Scheduled Hours:</b></p> 40 <p></p> <p><b> Work Shift:</b></p> Day (United States of America) <p></p> Assistant General Counsel <p></p> <p><b> Job Description:</b></p> <p><b> Job Summary: </b>Reporting to the Assistant Deputy General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel for General Health Care provides legal counsel to Beth Israel Lahey Health and its subsidiaries. The Assistant General Counsel represents BILH before courts, administrative review boards and regulatory agencies. The Assistant General Counsel provides advice and counsel in a variety of areas, including general health care law, privacy, health care compliance, corporate and employment law. In addition, the Assistant General Counsel serves as a general support resource for the other attorneys in the Office of General Counsel.<br> <br> <b>Essential Responsibilities: </b></p> <p></p> <p>In collaboration with other attorneys within the Office of General Counsel, provide a variety of legal services to clients and oversee the allocation of internal and external resources for such services,in collaboration with the supervising attorney. The expectation is that the Assist. General Counsel will work together with more senior attorneys at the outset and become more independent over time</p> <p> Review, negotiate and advise on a variety of agreements, including, physician arrangements, vendor agreements, services and supplier agreements.</p> <p> Maintain current knowledge of state and federal health care regulations and laws.</p> <p> Participate in committees and assist in the development of BILH policies and procedures that cover a variety of legal issues, and support the corporate compliance program and provide legal advice related to compliance matters.</p> <p> Review and respond to subpoenas.</p> <p> Participate in the off-hours attorney 'call' rotation for providing health care advice connected to medical-legal emergencies.</p> <p> Perform special projects pertaining to a variety of legal issues.</p> <p> Work collaboratively within the BILH legal group to ensure consistent delivery of legal services across the system.</p> <p> Perform other duties as assigned consistent with a lawyer with 3-5 years' experience in health care law.</p> <p><b> Required Qualifications:</b></p> <p> Doctoral degree in JD Degree from an accredited institution required.</p> <p> Admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.</p> <p> 3-5 years related work experience required in as a practicing lawyer in regulatory matters and contracting, preferably with experience in hospitals, health care systems and/or academic medical centers.</p> <p> Must be a member in good standing to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.</p> <p> Proven ability to provide legal advice and counsel with minimum oversight.</p> <p> This position is located in Boston with need to travel to OGC Burlington office on a regular basis.</p> <p> Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.</p> <p><b> Preferred Qualifications:</b></p> <p> Law firm experience.</p> <p><b> Competencies:</b></p> <p> Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by precedents, policies and objectives. Regularly makes decisions and recommendations on issues affecting a department or functional area.</p> <p> Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.</p> <p> Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and determines how to accomplish defined results with some guidelines. Manager/Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.</p> <p><b> Written Communications: </b>Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.</p> <p><b> Oral Communications: </b>Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.</p> <p><b> Knowledge: </b>Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.</p> <p><b> Team Work: </b>Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.</p> <p><b> Customer Service: </b>Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.</p> <p><b><br> Physical Nature of the Job:</b><br> Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects.
