For more information, see https://generalcounsel.fsu.edu</p> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div> <div> <h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> Responsibilities</b></h2> <div> <br> <div> <div> </div> <p>The Associate General Counsel is primarily responsible for coordinating, monitoring and representing University interests and providing general legal advice to the University Board of Trustees, President, and other senior officials and staff on myriad matters affecting the University. </p> <p>The position will serve as principal University legal counsel in coordinating, monitoring, processing, and advising on public records requests and subpoenas for records, and advising on the Sunshine Law, FERPA, HIPAA, and student and employee privacy issues. </p> <p>The position will also provide legal support and advice on contracts and agreements, garnishments, international programs, athletics, licensing and, as needed, on student/academic issues, employee issues and intellectual property. </p> <p>The position represents the University before administrative bodies, such as DOAH, OCR and FCHR, as well as in federal and state courts, as needed. </p> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div> <div> <h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Qualifications</b></h2> <div> <br> <div> <div> </div> <p>Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school, active membership in good standing in the Florida Bar, and at least two years of law practice.</p> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div> <div> <h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> Preferred Qualifications</b></h2> <div> <br> <div> <div> </div> <p>Strong organization and time management skills to timely respond to inquiries and requests.</p> <p> Knowledge of and the ability to interpret Florida Statutes, Board of Governors' regulations and University regulations, policies, procedures, principles and practice.</p> <p> At least three years' experience in the practice of law is strongly preferred.</p> <p> Higher education experience is preferred.</p> <p> Experience with public records requests and subpoenas is preferred.</p> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div> <div> <h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> University Information</b></h2> <div> <br> <div> <div> </div> <p>One of the nation's elite research universities, Florida State University preserves, expands, and disseminates knowledge in the sciences, technology, arts, humanities, and professions, while embracing a philosophy of learning strongly rooted in the traditions of the liberal arts and critical thinking.
