<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-jobDescriptionText" dir="ltr"><div> <div> The Securian Financial Law Department seeks an attorney to join its corporate legal services team. As part of this team, you will support the corporate legal needs of Securian Financial and its affiliates throughout the U.S. and Canada. You will primarily be focused on human resources, employment, and worker-related immigration matters. You may also be called upon to support other corporate legal areas as needed. The successful candidate will bring applicable legal experience and a pragmatic approach that balances business needs and risk mitigation. </div> <div></div> <div> What you’ll do: </div> <ul> <li> Serve as the primary internal legal resource for employment related laws and regulations, supporting a wide variety of human resources and employee matters.</li> <li> Work with human resource professionals to prepare, revise, and administer employment related practices and policies, including monitoring changes to applicable laws and regulations.</li> <li> Consult with employee relations professionals to resolve employee disputes, investigate any employee allegations of discrimination or harassment, and manage the company’s response to any litigation, regulatory, or administrative actions related to employment law.</li> <li> Consult with employee relations professionals regarding employee performance management, discipline, and separations.</li> <li> Support talent management professionals regarding interview, offer, onboarding, and performance management best practices.</li> <li> Prepare and administer employment-related agreements (<i>e.g.</i>, recruiting, retention, bonus, non-disclosure).</li> <li> Provide periodic training to associates and leaders regarding human resources matters (e.g., harassment, discrimination, elimination of bias).</li> <li> Provide support for other employment related matters as needed, including staff augmentation matters and cross-border work permit/visa needs between Securian Financial affiliates in the U.S. and Canada.</li> <li> Coordinate with other in-house, affiliate, and outside attorneys and perform other corporate legal functions as needed.</li> </ul> <div></div> <div> What we’re looking for: </div> <ul> <li> J.D. from an accredited law school, licensed and in good standing to practice law in Minnesota.</li> <li> 5+ years of employment related legal experience in a law firm or in-house setting.</li> <li> Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with federal, state, and local labor and employment laws and regulations.</li> <li> Commitment to strong standards of service and collaborative relationship building.</li> <li> Strong collaboration skills with an exceptional capacity for critical thinking and problem solving.</li> <li> Proactive communication skills with a strong ability to translate complex topics for multiple audiences (<i>e.g.</i>, executive leaders, management, and internal business partners).</li> <li> Versatility, maturity, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team, particularly in a collaborative environment, to organize, plan, prioritize, and complete multiple projects with competing deadlines.</li> </ul> <div></div> <div> Preferred additional qualifications: </div> <ul> <li> Experience as in-house counsel for a large company</li> <li> Familiarity with complex employee benefits plans, administration, and related laws/regulations.</li> <li> Previous experience working with Canadian and U.S. work permit and visa matters.</li> <li> Previous financial services or insurance industry related experience.</li> <li> Experienced with process improvement, flexible working style, and adaptability to new technologies (strong inclination for continuous learning and self-improvement).</li> </ul> <div></div> <div> Securian Financial believes in hybrid work as an integral part of our culture. If you’re in a commutable distance (90 minutes) you’ll join us 2-3 days each week in our offices to collaborate and build relationships. Our policy allows flexibility for the reality of business and personal schedules.
