<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-jobDescriptionText jobsearch-JobComponent-description"><div> <p>The Senior Counsel is a commercial, generalist, legal counsel for the Mars Wrigley business, reporting to the Associate General Counsel, North America. The successful candidate will be an effective business partner to the Mars Wrigley Commercial, Growth and R&amp;D functions to help the business create, develop and implement new growth operating business models. Working in a highly collaborative manner with the broader Mars Wrigley legal teams (e.g., Food Law, Sustainability, Compliance, Marketing Properties, Intellectual Property, Corporate Development, and Privacy), the Senior Counsel is accountable for delivering holistic legal support to grow the business, manage legal risks and protect the Mars Wrigley brands and reputation, while ensuring compliance with company’s policies and applicable laws. The role is North America focused, with the potential to work on projects that scale to regions outside North America. The Senior Counsel will be a highly skilled lawyer with an excellent track record of creating collaborative relationships across a complex, matrixed organization. This is a newly created role within the Mars Wrigley legal team and is an exciting opportunity to use your legal skills to unlock new and unique growth opportunities for one of the world’s leading, global consumer goods companies.</p> <p></p> <p><b> What are we looking for?</b></p> <ul> <li><p> J.D. from an accredited law school with 10+ years of general corporate and commercial legal experience required, ideally with experience in both a well-respected law firm and in the legal department of a successful, complex, growth company. Experience in a tech, B2B or CPG sector would be advantageous.</p></li> <li><p> Broad-based legal experience supporting tech ventures, external collaboration arrangements and new growth operating models, including drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements (e.g., direct procurement, co-man, co-collaboration, tech development, joint venture, direct investment etc.), with a solid understanding of the associated regulatory environment, competition law, data privacy and intellectual property legal issues.</p></li> <li><p> Experience sitting on business leadership teams and/or providing counsel to senior business leaders is preferred.</p></li> <li><p> Creative, agile thinker with an entrepreneurial, solutions-oriented mindset to drive business growth objectives.</p></li> <li><p> Strong business acumen.</p></li> <li><p> Can act decisively.</p></li> <li><p> Capable of analyzing complex legal and policy issues from a commercial perspective.</p></li> <li><p> Excellent relationship and influencing skills.</p></li> <li><p> Strong analytical skills.</p></li> <li><p> Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with a bias for action (strong work ethic) and able to function independently.</p></li> <li><p> Strong interpersonal skills.</p></li> <li><p> Strong, flexible team player and collaborator that works to meet both personal and organization goals.</p></li> <li><p> Ability to navigate a matrixed organization to deliver results.</p></li> <li><p> Excellent written and oral communication skills.</p></li> <li><p> Excellent organization, execution and project management skills.</p></li> <li><p> Ability to travel if necessary.</p></li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b> What will be your key responsibilities?</b></p> <ul> <li><p> Serve as the legal lead for external partnering and growth initiatives.</p></li> <li><p> Partner with the Mars Wrigley Commercial, Growth and R&amp;D teams, to develop and implement legal strategies for the business’ preferred growth operating models, which will enable the long-term growth of the business and effectively manage legal risks.</p></li> <li><p> Understand the key business issues that drive the legal issues, and consistently make commercial legal decisions that support achievement of the business objectives.</p></li> <li><p> Effectively assess risks and opportunities to manage risks effectively and influence business decisions in light of these assessments.</p></li> <li><p> Partner with the Marketing Properties team to drive brand optimization and with the Intellectual Property team to protect and secure high ROI on commercially valuable IP.</p></li> <li><p> Partner with the Mars Compliance and Privacy legal team, and Mars Global Services legal resources, to secure the needed support and expertise in connection with technology and personal data collection, processing and use.</p></li> <li><p> Collaborate and partner with the regional and local cross-segment legal counterparts across Mars, Inc. to ensure a consistent and aligned “One Mars” approach on key matters and issues.</p></li> <li><p> Collaborate and partner with the regional business stakeholders and relevant members of the Mars Wrigley legal team for global projects</p></li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b> What can you expect from Mars?</b></p> <ul> <li><p> Work with over 140,000 like-minded and talented Associates, all guided by The Five Principles.</p></li> <li><p> Join a purpose driven company, where we’re striving to build the world we want tomorrow, today.</p></li> <li><p> Best-in-class learning and development support from day one, including access to our in-house Mars University.</p></li> <li><p> An industry competitive salary and benefits package, including company bonus.</p></li> </ul> <p></p> <p> #LI-KR2</p> </div></div>
