Trust & Estates Paralegal/Fiduciary Accountant

The estate paralegal will assist partners and/or associates as well as the trusts and estates team with estate and trust administrative work and projects as needed. The position estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $90,000-$130,000 and this role is overtime eligible. Actual salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills and experience. Once fully trained, this position is eligible for a hybrid schedule. Duties and responsibilities Administration of estates and trusts, including (a) working closely with clients and financial institutions and appraisers, (b) preparing and filing probate documents in courts in various states, (c) marshalling decedent’s assets, (d) preparing cash requirements for estates, (e) valuation of stock and bond portfolios, (f) maintaining checkbooks and ledgers, (g) coordinating liquidation and/or transfer of decedent’s assets, (h) preparing receipts, releases and indemnification agreements, (i) preparing formal and informal accountings for estates and trusts, (j) coordinating distribution to beneficiaries of estates and trusts, (k) assisting with post-mortem income tax planning, (l) preparing and filing federal and state estate tax returns, (m) preparing and filing federal and state fiduciary income tax returns for estates and trusts, (n) participating in estate and income tax audits, (o) computation of commissions for executors and trustees, (p) providing documents needed for sale of decedent’s real property or cooperative apartment, including obtaining releases of federal and state estate tax liens, (q) organizing and maintaining records. Estate planning preparation and computations based on varied scenarios. Preparation and filing of gift tax returns. Preparation and filing of annual informational returns for charitable trusts. Preparation and filing of guardianship accountings and reports. Qualifications Education B.A./B.S. degree or Paralegal Certificate or commensurate experience required. Knowledge, skills, abilities 5 plus years of Estate and Trust experience required. 2 plus years fiduciary accounting experience required. Excellent written and verbal communication as well as inter-personal skills. Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to maintain and manage confidential information. Works effectively, calmly and quickly under pressure. Strong technical skills, including use of various tax and accounting programs, FormsWorkflow. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite as well as experience with document management systems.
