The AAG shall represent the state prosecuting criminal cases in state trial courts throughout Nebraska. <br> <br> Salary commensurate with comparable state agency positions and candidate experience. Full-time state benefits available. The Assistant Attorney General will either work from the Nebraska Department of Justice’s office located in Lincoln or in a location in Greater Nebraska commensurate with the Office’s needs. <br> <br> Responsibilities include: <br> <ul> <li>Prosecuting a wide variety of felony and misdemeanor crimes including homicide, child and elderly abuse, white collar, property, drug, official misconduct, and other cases as assigned.</li> <li>Consulting with crime victims and updating victim liaisons about case status.</li> <li>Communicating with witnesses, defense counsel, and peer County Attorneys regarding pending matters.</li> <li>Researching issues of criminal law, writing briefs and memoranda, conducting pretrial hearings, negotiations and trials all in the pursuit of successful prosecutions.</li> </ul> <br> The Nebraska Department of Justice is dedicated to assuring equal employment opportunity to applicants and employees in all aspects of personnel administration without regard to political affiliation, race, color, national origin, sex, age, marital status, mental or physical disability, or religious creed and with proper regard for their privacy and constitutional rights. Excellent legal writing skills and demonstrated work ethic. </div> <div></div> <div> PREFERRED: Three or more years of civil litigation, appellate advocacy or criminal prosecution experience. Prior experience in successful prosecution of significant felony crimes or public corruption cases strongly preferred. Demonstrated subject matter expertise in the relevant position. </div> <div></div> <div> <br> OTHER: Travel throughout the state of Nebraska required.
