Reporting directly to the Chief Counsel, Labor &amp; Employment, the Senior Counsel, Labor &amp; Employment will advise the Company and its employees on employment matters including hiring and termination, employment discrimination, harassment, disability accommodation, contingent worker rules, restrictive covenants, employee investigations, leaves of absence, labor issues, and wage and hour claims. This attorney will also:</p> <ul> <li> Assess and handle pre-litigation employment claims, administrative proceedings, and litigation in consult with outside litigation counsel;</li> <li> Have a strong command of Federal and state (especially California, New York, and/or Illinois employment laws; and</li> <li> Have ability to think strategically and creatively while providing practical counsel to HR</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b><br> Responsibilities</b></p> <ul> <li> Advising the Company and its employees on employment matters including hiring and termination, employment discrimination, harassment, disability accommodation, contingent worker rules, restrictive covenants, employee investigations, leaves of absence, and wage and hour issues. May advise company on labor relations issues.</li> <li> Assisting Company Human Resources Department with respect to employment issues and policies;</li> <li> Responding to EEOC and other governmental agency charges;</li> <li> Investigating workplace allegations;</li> <li> Creating, updating, and implementing employment handbooks and other workforce-related policies;</li> <li> Conducting training on employment related issues;</li> <li> Identifying and assessing legal risks and opportunities within employment areas;</li> <li> Collaborating with cross-functional teams to structure employment law compliance across multiple jurisdictions;</li> <li> Working with internal and external resources to represent Company in litigation, arbitrations, mediations, investigations and administrative proceedings, including preparing or reviewing the preparation of briefs and other court documents;</li> <li> Establishing and maintaining relationships, credibility and trust with Company employees, outside counsel, members of the Legal Department, HR, and other colleagues;</li> <li> Travel to headquarters and other offices and facilities from time to time.</li> </ul> Qualifications: <p><b> Qualifications &amp; Skills</b></p> <ul> <li> JD, training at a top national law firm and member of a state bar</li> <li> 4-7 years of experience in an employment practice</li> <li> Experience representing and advising individuals and/or companies on matters related to employment discrimination, disability accommodation, wrongful termination, wage and hour laws;</li> <li> Proven track record of providing pragmatic and reasoned advice to HR and business partners;</li> <li> Strong writing skills, especially in agency responses, etc.</li> <li> Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced, changing environment and to balance multiple, concurrent projects;</li> <li> Sound and practical business judgment and the ability to provide business-oriented, practical legal advice;</li> <li> Team-oriented collaborator</li> <li> Strong interpersonal and communication skills; and</li> <li> Ability to effectively manage and/or oversee outside counsel</li> <li> Labor experience a plus</li> </ul> <div></div> <p><b><br> Why This Is A Great Opportunity</b></p> <ul> <li> Food packaging is a vital industry, offering greater job stability and the chance to work with advancing technology. The compensation range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Pactiv Evergreen, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
