<p></p> <b>Assistant Attorney General - SECURE &amp; Special Prosecutions Sections</b> <br> The Utah Attorney General's Office has two vacancies for Assistant Attorneys General to work in the Justice Division. Both vacancies will initially work in the SECURE/Human Trafficking section, but one position will be moved to the Special Prosecutions Section within 6-9 months of hire. <br> <br> Applicants must be willing to work in any section as assigned. Please see the following brief descriptions of each section: <br> <br> The human trafficking prosecutor works with the SECURE strike force to provide support to investigators and to prosecute human trafficking cases throughout the state of Utah. The prosecutor also assists with human trafficking training. <br> <br> The type of cases handled in Special Prosecutions involve aggravated felony crimes, homicide, assault, communications fraud, forgery, theft, sex crimes and abuse (both child and adult), public corruption, identity theft, narcotics, and firearms. <br> <br> These positions require excellent written and oral advocacy skills and the ability to try both jury and bench trials of a complicated nature. Preference will be given to candidates with criminal litigation experience, an interest in criminal law, and experience in preparing for and trying complex criminal cases. <br> <br> The candidate must be a member in good standing with the Utah State Bar upon application. Travel is required as incumbents will need to represent the State in criminal trials and other legal proceedings throughout the State. <br> <br> Due to budget restrictions, these positions may only be filled up to grade level III. <ul> <li> Assistant Attorney General I (0-2 years experience): $54/hour, $112,320 annual</li> <li> Assistant Attorney General II (2-5 years experience): $57/hour, $118,560 annual</li> <li> Assistant Attorney General III (5+ years experience): $60/hour, $124,800 annual</li> </ul> *This posting will remain open until both positions are filled, and may close without notice.* <br> <p></p> <b>Example of Duties</b> <p></p> <ul> <li>Prepares cases by conducting legal research and gathering evidence.</li> <li> Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate advice, and/or facilitates decisions.</li> <li> Determine needs in discovery, and/or completes discovery; participates in decision making and strategy sessions in preparing cases for court and determining evidence to be used.</li> <li> Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, discovery, motions, documents and/or other written materials.</li> <li> Receives, researches and responds to incoming questions; provides information, explains considerations, and/or facilitates a resolution.</li> <li> Drafts litigation working documents; prepares documents consisting of concise decisions based upon facts of case interpretations of law and compliance with state and federal standards.</li> <li> Conducts conferences with defendants and/or attorneys, negotiate settlements, and with court.</li> <li> May be required to travel to various court locations and stay overnight.</li> </ul> <p></p> <b>Typical Qualifications</b> <p>(This list contains knowledge, skills, and abilities typically associated with the job.
